Marks on skimmed wall, what are they? Help pls

Indeed - very odd. Almost like some sort of ivy or creeper had been growing and had stuck itself to the plaster. Any more pictures, and as JohnD says, some idea of scale would help. Is this all over a wall, high or low down, stuff like that... Is picture 2 a wall/ceiling junction ?

    Best washing machines..?

But why JohnD - how are they better ? Do they do a better job and last longer ? We don't need anything too fancy, just clean clothes that come out of the machine fairly dry and without burning up a load of electricity ! Oh, and thanks for the reply - at least I have a starting point of...

    Best washing machines..?

OK, we will be buying a washing machine in the near future and know nothing about them except that some makes are cheap, and some are not ! I assume a Miele or similar is expensive to buy for a reason, so may do a better job of washing, leave clothes drier and last longer, but is that true...

Marks on skimmed wall, what are they? Help pls

No pictures showing in your post - can you try again..? Small black marks may be a result of condensation, so mildew which is easily treated by using a fungicidal wash or bleach, but more important is the reason why they are there - often a sign of bad ventilation or drying too many clothes...

    Textured paint on ceilings..

I think you are right footprints - I was getting blinded by the idea of a new tool to play with maybe..... I might try to delay us moving in and get a few ceilings done in one hit to make it all easier. Now, how do I justify that new toy - get some bad plasterers in ??

    Textured paint on ceilings..

Thanks for the reply footprints ! It isn't Artex - more like Sandtex or the like. I am wondering about buying something like a Mirka Ceros to sand them down (I already have a hoover that I can attach it to for dust extraction ) as this would minimize the mess, and I could do it as suited...

    Textured paint on ceilings..

I may be about to buy a house with textured paint on all the ceilings, and I don't like the stuff. So, what do I do - the actual ceilings seem pretty sound, so do I scrape off the worst of the lumps then easi-fill and sand or should I get a plasterer in to skim the lot ? I have never tried...

    Multitools and blades...

I have still not bought one but from what you wise folks have said it is down to the GOP300 or the Fein, though a purchase may have to wait a while as I have just bought a Festool sander and dust extractor.... Still need a delta sander which is likely to be my main use for a multi tool, and...

    zinsser bin

Agreed. Coverstain or even 123 at a push. I was under the impression that the BIN had been applied.

    zinsser bin

1 coat of BIN as said, but why the Crown one coat ? It isn't a very good paint and may well yellow badly. Water based, such as Johnstones Aqua undercoat and gloss or for satin, try Joncryl U/C then their acrylic satin - both are way better and will last and not yellow. Rub down as you say...

which low odour paint to use for interior doors?

Fair comment Joe, and something I should have added in my last post ! Don't spread it out too thin - an even coat is what matters which is where a mini roller can help !

which low odour paint to use for interior doors?

No, go with the water based. I rarely use anything oil based these days. I would apply a coat of zinsser bullseye 123 (or even better zinsser Coverstain but this is solvent based and stinks !but is thought to be even better) as a primer - this will help adhesion. However, before you do this a...

which low odour paint to use for interior doors?

Are the doors primed or bare wood ? I am not sure why joe90 says that water based is hard to use but surely one of your first questions for yourself should be what sort of finish do you want ? Johnstones Joncryl undercoat then satin is good, their Aqua undercoat and gloss is also very good...

    Painting over pre-painted MDF

I am not sure if bin would be ideal but guess it would do. However it is hard to paint and getting a decent finish would be hard plus it stinks. Another thing to think about is a decent brush...

    Painting over pre-painted MDF

My feeling is to wash it down to remove any polish or grease, then sand down to key the surface. Then I would use a primer like zinsser coverstain or 123 which will ensure the new paint bonds to the old. Then my choice would be something like Johnstones Aqua undercoat and 2 coats of gloss -...

    Multitools and blades...

OK, I am about to go buy a multitool, and am thinking of getting a corded - but which one - seems from what I have read that the Bosch 190 or even the 250 are fairly well thought of but any owners care to give their opinions of these or others and why you bought them ? Also, blades - they...

    Kitchen cupboard paint...

As opps said, owatrol makes even the worst oil based paints easy to use. Not cheap though, but so worth the expense ! I use Axus Lime rollers for kitchens and tip off with a very good brush (Corona Knight is my favourite ) Brush marks are a thing of the past !

    Rubbing Down / Electric Sanders

An orbital sander is the thing to go for. A lot of decorators are using the Mirka Ceros but it is expensive. However, virtually dust-free sanding (when it is attached to a hoover obviously !) makes what was once a total chore into something close to a pleasure. Doing a HSL means dust...

    White anti-rust primer

How about using some Owatrol oil ? It is a paint conditioner and rust inhibitor so you can add it to an oil based primer or you can paint it on neat. I would use Zinsser Cover Stain (make sure you get the oil based one as there is also a water based version)...

    Is sugar soap neccessary?

Sugar soap cleans and de-greases. On a new build there is no need for it at all. However, in a house that has been lived in for years it is very useful, although products like Krud Kutter are even better, especially in kitchens ! In your house a quick wash down of the skirtings etc with...
