    double glazed units installed

I had 3 new windows installed last week and today it's rained hard so I had a look at how they coped. Two questions: * the external cill beneath the windows is completely horizontal, so water sits on it rather than running off. Is this correct? * there's a gap beneath the windows where they...

    domestic oil tank

I have a Harlequin bunded tank (6 years old) with a leak alarm. Pressed the test button and it shows red. The wording says green indicates battery OK and red indicates a leak (ie liquid in the bund). Have changed the battery (1st time, though it says 2 year life expectancy aprox) but same...

Thanks. Any experience or suggestions as to whether/how that applies to the clauses in question?

    double glazing contract

Thanks. yes I had several quotes + some last year too. It's a smaller local firm with good local reviews, and until this appeared I felt confidant with them..

    double glazing contract

Am I being paranoid or sensible.... to query the contract? After shopping around and getting quotes I decided on a company for upvc replacement windows. They then sent round their 'surveyor' who measured up, and gave me the contract to sign. Wanted me to sign then, but was happy when I said...

    idigbo

I'm having two bespoke window frames made (with 4 metal casements in each). The existing frames are painted white but I'm considering staining idigbo wood instead (to match front door). Pros/cons of idigbo over other woods? Pros/cons of staining over paint? Thanks

Is there a standard job specification for carrying out a Powerflush?

Hmmmmm.. and if the boiler fails and you claim on the warranty, how do you 'prove' the system was clean if the manufacturer declines to fix on the grounds it was dirty......?

Is there a standard job specification for carrying out a Powerflush?

When I had a powerflush done, the guy not only did each rad individually, but reversed the pump on each rad too. Don't most new boilers require a powerflush done at time of installation to validate the warranty?

New window frame - BRs needed?

I have metal framed windows set into a wooden frame (see picture). The wood has got rot and needs replacing. It will be a like-for-like replacement (original metal windows re-fitted into new wooden frame) except that the frame will be wood-stained not painted. The house is not listed. Do I...

Selling House - Indemnity Insurance and Statute of Limitations

The indemnity insurance will cost aroud £100-£150. Often quicker & easier to pay even if unecessary. Sadly this is increasingly common. It is usually not the buyer, but their mortgage lender who insists on it, via their solicitor (who is often the same as the buyer's), and as the buyer can't...

    Drawings for Planning Permission

Interesting debate. Our feeling is: * A buyer MIGHT happen to want exactly what the PP permits * More likely a buyer might want a different layout, but the PP reassures the buyer that the LA is open to extension, and that THEIR application is more likely to be approved * it also clearly...

    Drawings for Planning Permission

Myself & siblings have inherited mum's house, which we plan to sell. It's a 3 bed + huge 'office area' at top of stairs & only one bathroom - difficult as it is to alter the layout. However if it were extended it could be redesigned into a much more atractive layout eg 4 (5?) beds + ensuite...

    fridge light

Many thanks. Yes, levering out the side connector fixed it. I now have two un-needed bulbs for sale!

    fridge light

Thanks. No. I assume I'd need some special tool to check that (as opposed to just sticking my finger in............)?

    fridge light

Took over a friend's fridge (Osprey larder fridge) and found the fridge light not working, so naturally bought new bulb. Still not working. Took working bulb from another fridge just to check and... no good. Disconnected the two wires to the door switch and connected them together to see if...
