    honeywell 3 point diverter

Interesting! Thanks. I ended up replacing it with a new one, as the old one was still sticking. But from what you say, next year as spring ends, I should make sure I use the hot water last before putting the boiler into its summer hibernation?

    which pull cord switch

Ahhh! Spoke too soon! It worked for a few days and then darkness! The switch is new, and sounds/feels like it works when pulled. The light and bulb are new. Ony thing I can think of now is someone in the attic has taken a mouthful of cable. Could that cause it or would that just short out the...

Aich! So can anyone provide a link to or quote from the relevant part of the regulations relating to..... whatever heating controls are categorised as..... with respect to bathroom zones?

    electrics in bathroom

Thanks! So if sited in the 'outside zone' (more than 0.6m from bath) it would be a) permissable and b) not notifiable? None of the pictures I've found show a sink, but I assume the 0.6m applies for that too?

Can central heating controls be put on a bathroom wall? Currently inaccessible in a cupboard above bathroom sink and I want to move them.

New globe light.New LED bulb. Problem solved. Thanks to all.

    which pull cord switch

Spot on! Screw on glass ball with 100w traditional incandescent GLS bulb inside. Can you suggest a reasonable replacement light? Needs to be bright and fit in the same place (so wall not ceiling), ideally using same screw holes (5cm apart). It's beside the bath if that limits the choice.

    which pull cord switch

When the bulb is screwed in, it wobbles slightly if moved from side to side. Might that be the issue?

    which pull cord switch

Returning from the silent switch discussion detour, back to my original issue..... I bought a replacement switch (yes the one pictured above!) and had no difficulty wiring it in. Unfortunatly the light still didn't come on! So, sequence of events: * light stopped coming on * took out bulb and...

    which pull cord switch

I need to replace the switch in my bathroom. There are a number available from Screwfix, but I'm not sure which to get: 6 amp or 10 amp? 1 way or 2 way - I assume 1 way as it just controls the light? Anything else I need to consider? I had a look inside and there are 3 wires; 2 red + green earth.

    honeywell 3 point diverter

Hi. As heating and hot water are both switched off in summer, I've found the diverter tends to freeze up through non use. Removing the motor and just manually loosening the valve fixes it. I've just done this, but noticed that (after turning off the power..) the motor was warm. Well, maybe...

Thanks for all the comments / criticisms - all welcome! He's now had 2 more quotes. the first one he 'didn't take to', and I must admit the fact he changed his surname from the start of the visit to the namecard at the end (would you believe Smith to Jones?) was a bit worrying..... The latest...

so would he do better to leave well alone and hope no more rads fail? He panics when there's a leak, plus the last one only got spotted when it came through to the floor below and caused damage. And stress. And that rad has to be replaced. At present it's just isolated.

Bit of an update. I've persuaded him to get another quote to compare so that will happen in a few days. Meanwhile the first guy has clarified a bit: Due to the age of the boiler we would just do a combustion analysis check Seals and parts may be needed if we service Rad sizes – 1 x 1200x600 k1...

No. Why? So what's a typical rate for 2 men for a day? It's a written quote. No phone involved. But appreciate hearing you wouldn't comment here. The guy spent an hour at the house before sending in the quote. Any plumbers out there willing to comment on the price? edit: he's seen the...

My elderly father wants to replace some very old radiators. Over the last couple of years he's had 3 that rusted and started to leak, causing some (minor) damage and lots of stress (all 3 now replaced). So he has decided to replace the remaining ones before they too cause problems. Here's the...

any experts on new drainage regs?

The Water Industry (Schemes for Adoption of Private Sewers) 2011 is now in force. This relates to a private road with around 30 houses. Each property has drains running into a sewer down the centre of the road, leading to the mains sewerage system. The road is owned by a management company...

    fascia boards

When upgrading (or should that be downgrading?) fascia boards to upvc, do they remove the original wood ones and replace, or do they fix the plastic to cover the wood? What is a ball-park price for a 1980s 2 bed end-of terrace (with gable end) in Midlands?
