I have an open system fed from a feeder tank in the attic. oil fired Boiler downstairs. We have a hot water tank on the first floor. All works fine when CH turned on, but when we put water only on to heat the tank we get an air lock developing at the entrance to the hot water tank. THis...

    Heating Oil - advice needed

Realise not really a DIY issue - but there are a good few people on here with experience of oil heating etc - hoping the mods help us out by leaving the post on here to get some good advice. Here we are, now effectively a day before Christmas and a three day break for the working...

    Broken boiler flue.....

The flue to our oil fired boiler runs through the wall and outside - whereupon it raises about 10 feet to a level above roof height. in the storms Thursday night the wind has blown and snapped the flue. I braced the flue and set the boiler to run to check if it was still working as a vent to...

Air lock to hot water tank

Will go round and check - I take it I am just looking around joints/taps for any signs that they are not fully tightened? (Edit - I am keen - but lacking in any knowledge what so ever! :D )

Air lock to hot water tank

Seems to have been there for a while - although I would think it is more frequent - possibly since it was drained to fit a new rad - but may be my mind playing tricks and they may not be related. The boiler fires up and heats water for a short while - then the rads heat up as none of the hot...

Air lock to hot water tank

In the room directly above the boiler we have a hot water tank. The tank has a feed to and from the tank linking to the boiler. This feed goes through the coil and returns to the boiler. On the feed side there is a venting point. Continually I am finding (every 2-3 days) the water level...

    Grundfos 15/50 pump

It does have a cylinder and have vented that - think there was an airlock as left it overnight - came home form work - vented the usual vent point (Rad in the bathroom) and a tonne of air came out - now water heating up and pump running silently. Still sounds like there is no activity on...

    Grundfos 15/50 pump

Central heating pump appears to be playing up. Drained the system to put some Fernox in it - followed directions on here about draining the system. Refilled the system and bled at all applicable points - finally at the pump with the heating off. When doing this a small amount of water...

Okay - assuming I wantedto look at the nozzle myself...... give me a clue? I have absolutely no idea where/how. I have checked through the manual/documentation and nothing there, the only thing I have is this inscription on the metal plate.

    oil boiler nozzle?

I need to get the details of the nozzle on my Mistral boiler to a plumber tomorrow - the details on the metal plate inside say "Nozzle 165" does this make sense? Does not seem consistent with nozzle sizes/types when I look on the internet.

    Efflorescence/Damp

Windows were installed before we bought the property - i think about 8 years ago. These are the only windows in the property without trickle vents. This is where the damp is - another thing that makes me suggest condensation. Ground outside is rubber matting for kids play area - this was...

    Efflorescence/Damp

Thanks chaps - some good stuff there - condensation would be my call as the lessening of the deterioration has shown up with the use of the dehumidifier. Going to get the bathroom vented with extractor above the shower - currently just a window to vent. Is there a way of "proving" that is...
