Central heating pump appears to be playing up.

Drained the system to put some Fernox in it - followed directions on here about draining the system.

Refilled the system and bled at all applicable points - finally at the pump with the heating off.

When doing this a small amount of water dripped from the pump, but no noticeable hissing of air etc.

Pump now running on setting 3 with a grainy sound - like grating or drilling. Does not appear to be running at all on settings 1 or 2 - no water sound at all and heat not reaching distant rad son 1 or 2.

Advice please folks.

Many thanks.

On the flow pipe that goes into the cylinder. You should see 2 pipes one about 12 inches above the other to the side of the cylinder. There should be an air vent on the top pipe. It may need a radiator key or it may be just a thumb screw.

It does have a cylinder and have vented that - think there was an airlock as left it overnight - came home form work - vented the usual vent point (Rad in the bathroom) and a tonne of air came out - now water heating up and pump running silently.

Still sounds like there is no activity on settings 1 or 2 on pump but 3 working fine.

Will monitor and post update in a few days.

Thanks for the help.
