PVC window - trouble fitting beading to hold glass in.

Cheers guys - I'll try the nick approach, as I cannot bend the strip enough to get the corners both in as it stands. I have a rubber dead blow hammer which I have used but to no avail, but I'll try it with the nicks. James

PVC window - trouble fitting beading to hold glass in.

Hello all, I have just replaced an old window with a PVC unit. Frame fits well and all fixed in fine, and managed to fit the lower pane and get all the beading fitted. However, with the smaller opening window (sash?) I can fit the beading top and sides, but I cannot get the lower beading to...

Ring circuit in garage with high amp compressor

Thanks for all the advice people. I will try to wire in another radial I think, although even the first is going to be a Pita I think. Is is permissable/advisable to do the following? Because of the roof joist (flat roof) arrangement to get front to back I have to either drill through...

Ring circuit in garage with high amp compressor

I have actually been using it off a plug recently, and no fuses have blown, so I may be OK. I think it may be Clarke overegging the pudding on power requirements. Its a big 'ole thing though... So I guess I could either wire it in via a 13A FCU, or even just put in a socket and run it off...

Ring circuit in garage with high amp compressor

Hello all, sorry to bombard forum with questions - got some unexpected free time, so doing all the jobs that have been waiting in the wings. I am going to put a ring circuit round my garage. I'm using metal clad sockets, and PVC conduit. All well and good. But can I connect a compressor...

    Question on Safe zones

OK, a seach through posts here indictes that I could crimp the cable in the socket backbox - I have a good quality crimping tool. However, the posts about it are old so the regs may have changed!! Perhaps a better option is to add a new socket next to the original, and use that as a sort of...

    Question on Safe zones

Cheers all. I think trying to access via the ceiling (where the ring appears to be) would be problamatical. ie. Lots more work pulling up carpet/floorboards/chipboard upstairs etc. Also more channeling required. To put the new socket on to the ring I would need both parts of the ring to go...

    Question on Safe zones

Hello all, having read the Wiki entry on safe zones, I am not sure what to do in the following situtation. I am putting in a spur from a ringed socket in one room, and the cable need to go along the wall to a corner, round the internal corner for about 30-45cm, then through the wall to the...

What glands to connect conduit to metal clad socket/switch?

Topic says it all really. Wiring up some stuff in the garage - going to use 20mm PVC conduit, but don't know what sort of glands/connectors are needed to connect to the metal clad gear. Anyone have a toolstation/screwfix/QVS product code to point me in the right direction? James

    Adding an outside socket.

Hmm. Looks like its not worth doing the outside socket until I replace the CU, but I guess it means more money to the CU fund! I'll live with having to put the extension through the window for the moment. As an aside, I have not found anything in the house that the left hand box actually...

    Adding an outside socket.

I thnk it is actually - there is a 'bolted' on RCD on the consumer unit. (Yes, I know this little lot needs replacing!! When the garage gets its 3-phase I get a new CU as well) I guess from your question that if the ring has an RCD then I dont need one on these outside sockets? That...

    Adding an outside socket.

Just to clarify, the temp supply is just to feed an extension lead to garage until I get a three phase suppy put in(waiting for funds to accumulate!). At the moment the lead has to go through a window!! Brr. Ok, on the spur off spur, that means I presume that I need to extend the ring main so...

    Adding an outside socket.

Hello all, what I want to do if have a waterproof socket outside the back door, for a temporary supply to the garage, and for general garden implements. I was thinking of the MK Masterseal RCD protected twin gang (Toolstation 18191) for the exterior on a spur from a socket inside, which is...

Grandee Standard Wall mount - occasional lockout, odd noise

Hi, Thanks for the reply. SS are where we get our oil, so was considering them, although I don't know if they have any specialist Grandee knowledge. But £50/hour doesn't seem too bad. In fact I have a further question about the oil pressure - how is this actually set on these boilers...

Grandee Standard Wall mount - occasional lockout, odd noise

More information. I stripped the pump, cleaned out some channels that appeared to be a bit gummed up, and removed, cleaned, and replaced one of the blanking bolts in the pump cases - the one that could have been the leak culprit. Once reassembled, the boiler lit up fine and the woofing has...

Grandee Standard Wall mount - occasional lockout, odd noise

HI All, I had a search through the archive, but no luck, so I'll ask here... My Grandee boiler (1999-2000ish) has suddenly started playing up. A couple of weeks ago the oil tank was refilled - I dont know if this has caused the problem, but now it occasionally locks out. A week ago, it...

    Water too hot

I have now checked the valve with the HW off. System had been off overnight. CH had been on for 20 minutes, and the HW side of the valve was actually quite hot and although difficult to tell, it did appear slightly cooler than the CH side, but still at least 50degs I would think. Now...

Why is my CH so rubbish? (Potterton Puma 100e Combi Boiler)

Top quality advert for Pottertons HeatTeam. Not. (except for the final visit) It seems that Adam's fears of cowboys was well founded. It's a real shame he didn't take on the task himself - maybe next time!! Excellent diagnosis by the forum though!!
