Cavity wall insert / recess box

Hi all, Built extension that includes an outside cavity wall now inside. I'd like to add a recessed box into the cavity first skin of bricks not blocks, to aid hiding of TV cables eventually - It's quite small needs two bricks horizontal by say 6 bricks vertically, will this impact the...

    Insulating pipes before screed

Concrete on top of the insulation.

What can you see wrong in this picture? (extension build)

I'd assume there is also no structural calcs here, which is very worrying.

    Insulating pipes before screed

Hi, I'm running 15mm PEX pipe under the screed circa 35-40mm in depth, the pipes are laid on a concrete sub base that has 150mm insulation in. My question is what is the best insulation to wrap the pipes in? I'm currently using wool, but is there anything with more performance? Should it even...

45kg rad into thermal block wall with dot and dab

I need to perform this exact task soon - 45kg rad on dot and dab thermalites. Remember 45kg dry weight is a spread load over four brackets. I'm looking to use the following fischer bolts that I used for a large flatscreen (dot and dab and theramlite)...

Aluminum radiators worth it? Best place to buy?

Woah didn't expect the response to this, caused a healthy debate. The consensus being that Aluminum is not worth the hype? I thought the rad linked had a more efficient form for heating/moving the air through: Than over the steel counterpart: Price difference Alu - £665 Steel - £485

Lol I guess but that is a large bend!

Aluminum radiators worth it? Best place to buy?

Thanks, from everything I've read online everyone suggests going aluminum for the additional heat advantage that's why I've come on here to check with everyone. I don't want to make the wrong choice as it's such a large radiator and a high heating output is required for a large room...

Thanks for this info - seems quite simple really!

Aluminum radiators worth it? Best place to buy?

Hi all, Are aluminum rads worth the hype? Looking at a high output but they're obviously more expensive. Looking at the following...

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Thanks, I have been quite fortunate so far and upgraded another radiator similar to yours coming off microbore piping and seems to get very hot. I thought that vertical radiators have baffles in them or flow valves that should enable flow of hot water up and along sections rather than directly...

Is that not just a fan heater?

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Cheers Madrab - can you expand on vertical/column rads and why they don't tend to heat up as quickly as conventional rads? I've taken into account the 22 > 15 > 8mm exisiting pipework and as you say I don't want to upset the system, however there is not alot else I can do to get around this...

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Yeah cheers, as you can tell, I didn't think running in a series was an issue, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Come to think of it, I could take another branch off elsewhere to run the rads independently.

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Originally thought the house had a manifold but now looks to be a trunk and branch system, from 22mm to 8mm microbore to the radiators. Assume this is effectively the same thing? Tapping into the 22mm pipe then running 15mm to the two radiators?

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Thanks for the replies everyone, lots of info here and quite a something to think about. There isn't really an option to use 22mm piping as I'd need to rip up lots of floor boards, this pipe is taken from a rad that was removed and not required being on it's own run from the manifold. It will...

    Longest pipe run from combi?

Hi, I need to run some new copper central heating pipe 15mm from the manifold to new radiators in an extension, the run to the first rad could be up to 8m and to the next possibly 12m - is it too far away? What is the longest the combi boiler could push around the system without degrading...
