    Convection heater switch

On a convection/panel heater with no controls, should an external roomstat be on the switched or unswitched side of the feed. I am thinking it should be on the switched side so that it can be isolated without needing to go back to the CU but it would mean less cableing if it could be...

    Fixing plaster over conduit

I can't nail into the wall as I have painted a cement based waterproofing slurry onto it and any nails driven through this into the wall would break the continuity of the dampproofing. David

    Fixing plaster over conduit

Thanks for your help. Just out of interest I found these http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Images/Products/size_3/SCNAIL.JPG As I didn't have any the afore mentioned 1.0mm T&E clips worked, but I will try to get some of the proper ones tomorrow. As to the wall that I cannot nail into because of the...

    Fixing plaster over conduit

How is the best way to attatch plaster over conduit (not oval) to a block wall? Tried Double sided tape-not much good :? Gripfill- Still picking it off my fingers  Cable clips seemed to do the job, but several of the walls have been tanked with Thoroseal so hammering in cable clips...

    Planning a new system

Some advice please. What I am doing is converting a barn to include a kitchen, 2 downstairs bathrooms (bath/basin/toilet) and an upstairs shower room (shower/basin/toilet). We are on our own water supply so mains pressure and flow is fine. My plan is: Mains in and to the kitchen then to a...

    Shower cable

Is there a maximum length of 6mm cable that can be used for a 9.5kW shower or is it always necessary to use 10mm cable. I only ask as I ran the cable from the CU to the bathroom 18mths ago only planning to put a small shower in and then decided to put a bigger one in. The run is 2m plastered...

    Bath height

Is there a standard height for a bath? I only ask because I have the bath and have fitted it but the panel is on order and I don't know what size it is so I cannot really do the tileing until it arrives, unless there is such a thing as a standard size. The bath is a Roca "Carla" Many thanks...

    Room Heaters

Thanks plugwash for the suggestion, the only problem would be children fiddling with the timers so a "hidden" one would be better. Any more ideas anyone? thanks David

    Room Heaters

Basically the supply to the house is from the our farm supply(decent 20mm^2 SWA cable laid properly) so Economy 7 is not really feasable. Space for another CU is a bit of an issue to supply just the storage heaters thus the idea of the combind MCB/timer. Any other ideas? Maybe timers in the...

    Room Heaters

Following on from the original post can I please ask a couple more questions? 1. Does each storage heater need it's own radial circuit with individual FCU's or is the dedicated 2.5mm ring option better with a NEW installation 2. If the mutiple radial circuit option is chosen are there any...

new halogen downlights have all blown

We had the same problem with a Screwfix track light Flexline 5 Spot Lv Track. We changed the bulbs for some expensive ones (about £5 each!) that had a black coating on the back to prevent the light reflecting backwards onto the ceriling but these still blew. In the end we sent the whole unit back

    Electricity around water

Having just found this forums and being a bit of a newbie, I would like to ask a few questions about installations around water. 1. How close to a sink in a kitchen can a socket (and presumably light switch be) is the measurement from the outlet of the tap/the edge of the sink bowl or what...
