moving hardibacker - small crack - what type of filler?

Some of the hardibacker in my new bathroom has moved a bit and where it's been skimmed there is a hairline crack. It is tiny. Just wondering what the best type of filler to use is? Shall I use polyfiller, or will this crack again or should i 'wipe' some flexifiller into the crack? Cheers...

    Floating ceiling in living room

I've stayed in the St Martin's lane hotel and they had an above the bed light system that you could alter the colour of red thru green thru purple etc with the twist of a switch - very funky. As to how the did it? Not really any idea. Stay a night in there and take the ceiling apart?! For...

Well I am using slate on the floor, I was thinking of using these - cutting 'strips' with the wet saw. Is there something more suitable? Any links?

Leyland vinyl matt paint for first coat on plaster

Is it ok to use Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt in the bathroom, or do I need to use the eggshell? I don't think they mix the eggshell in the colour variety of the matt.

    tiles for skirting?

I have the option when I've tiled the floor to have normal skirting put in on top, or I thought, how about a tile skirting using say quarter of a 300mm tile? What do people think? Or should I do neither and very carfully tile to the wall and have neither. (the walls will not be tiled)

morning . Simple floor tiling question .

I can't picture what's been done. If there isn't a full tile at the bottom of the walls, and he's started laying on top of a batten, he might be able to still tile the floor then finish the bottom row of wall tiles.

    Never wallpapered before!!

It's very, very flat. Should I still use lining paper? And if I give it a coat of vinyl mat, do I not need to size it? Obviously sizing is some prep before papering. Just done a quick search, thinned down wallpaper paste correct? How much thinned?

    Never wallpapered before!!

I'm pretty sure it's non-vinyl. Although not 100% - I can check though. I'm guessing that if it was vinyl this could cause problems? (even if it was thinned?) I haven't decided the specific design yet, is this significant?

    Never wallpapered before!!

I've done quite a bit of DIY in my time, but the one thing I've never done is wallpaper! What prep do I need to do to paper on a freshly plastered stud wall. At the moment I have given the wall in question a mist coat of emulsion. Or is it now ready to go with paste and the wallpaper?

Leyland vinyl matt paint for first coat on plaster

Is it ok to use this paint for the mist coat on a bathroom ceiling, then subsequent coats on this and other ceilings? I want to get a reasonably cheap, but still reasonable quality white emulsion for the ceilings, before shelling out on dulux for the walls. Is leyland a reasonable choice, or...

    Complex Bathroom Tile Setting out

Yeah which way: find the centre point and tile out from here, or find the centre point, dry lay the tiles up the wall, where the last full tile lies, put down 2 battens in the corner making sure they're square, then tile properly from the corner outwards. I think I will tile in a normal...

    Complex Bathroom Tile Setting out

ps - not sure my measurements in mm's was wholly accurate! I measured up last night and it is 178cm(w) x 220cm(h) and my spacers are 5mm. MON - if you had nothing to do to day , a diagram with those measurements for diamond and normal pattern would be very much appreciated

    Complex Bathroom Tile Setting out

yeah, they're big ol tiles!!! cheers for that - nice little diagram. I marked out the floor last night for a normal pattern. I have some skinny tiles next to the shower that I need to resolve. I'll just shift it all to the left slightly though I think. gcol - qiuck question. I thought one...

shower screen on top of tiles, or tile up to shower screen?

which is best? I guess it might depend on the fitting of shower screen. I guess the best option is to fit the shower screen on top of the tiles if the measurements permit.
