    Masking off large sections outside

Thanks for the tip! I did something pretty similar - I bought some 250mu polythene sheeting from eBay (for about £35 from these guys). Also used some Gorilla Duck Tape from Screwfix which had pretty good adhesion to brick. I basically masked off the neighbours bottom floor, using the...

    Masking off large sections outside

Hello all I'm currently in the process of a particularly messy job - stripping the paint from the brickwork on the front of a house, which involves pressure-washing melted/liquified paint and strong chemicals off the wall. It's a pain to control where the spray is going and I need to...

    Removing masonry paint from rendering

Try here: http://www.stripperspaintremovers.com/I_want_to_remove.htm I was just about to start a thread about stripping the paint off the front of my house. The company above are excellent but be warned, the chemicals are really, REALLY nasty. I used NB-410 and it's like Nitromors...

Aluminum or Stainless Steel trim for laminate worktops

Doesn't aluminium corrode after it's been in contact with air? I think stainless steel would be better. Those places that make industrial kitchen installations, stainless splashbacks should be able to cut it for you. Remember to get the edges rounded off.

What should be done first? Double glazing or plastering?

Hello all Have to get certain walls plastered and windows replaced in a house I've moved into (Edwardian), just wondering what order it'd be easiest to finish the decorating. So, double glazing first or plastering first?

Dark areas around boiler and condensation

OK I think I may have a blocked flue. The boiler is in my kitchen and has a flue going outside, up through the conservatory and out of the roof. Over the last week I've noticed a large amount of condensation and dark areas around the top of the boiler. Over the last couple of days I've had...

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

    1. Am sure it's the small one in the pic as that's overflowing. 2. Not as far as I can see.

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

Yes, what I am saying is that I had no idea what was in the loft before all the work was done. I surely do appreciate all of your advice but I am asking you guys as you are the experts. Forgive me for sounding defensive but I am not a plumber by trade! I saw a drip and fixed it! OK so far...

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

I taped up the pipe only about a month ago. I haven't done everything to regulations and textbook standards but how am I supposed to know? I saw a drip and I taped it up as a quick fix!!!

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

I had a drip coming off the nylon pipe (where it sort of bends awkwardly), so I taped that up. I have no idea what was up in the loft, I had a family friend who owns a plumbing business sort out all the heating system about 2 years ago.

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

The other (big) tank is out of sight to the rear and right of the pic. So I should get some more pipe and ensure they are drained separately?

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

Don't have a combi, it's a small tank, just taken a picture: I found the leak (it's not the dark patch under the tank in the pic, it's coming out where the nylon pipe attaches. So it sounds like a washer or the ball valve needs replacing?

How often should my external overflow pipe be dripping?

Hello all Just a quick one: I have a plastic overflow pipe in the loft that hangs outside of the house (between the eves of the roof), like most other 1920's houses in the area. Thing is, it's started to spit out water almost daily, I'd say about a pint or so at least once a day, for about...

    Plants growing through decking

Decking is waaaay too low to get under. Was wondering - how about I put that flexible filler in between the gaps, cutting out the light - surely that would work??

    Plants growing through decking

Hi there I've had some decking laid down in the garden and I distinctly remember the guy who laid it (I wasn't there at the time) confirming that he'd lay down some kind of membrane to stop plants growing through. Well guess what? I am sure he hasn't laid anything down as I now have plants...
