Bed shakes in new loft conversion when windy

Geraint, I don't know I'm asking the question, To take the place of the trussed elements and support the ridge? I've just seen either a ridge beam or purlins used as the size of the rafters wont span

Bed shakes in new loft conversion when windy

Shouldn't there be a steel ridge beam on a trussed loft con. The collar ties are only holding the rafters down and not doing the job of a raised tie truss. The rafters should be a min of 150 deep i think? But the ridge looks unsupported to me.

    Exposed internal stone walls

I started off with stone walls exposed in my house and as far as I know the above solution is inevitable. I ended up covering them. If the mortar is crumbling and thats causing the dust then repoint but they are a pain.

    Using brick acid

The best thing I found for acid washing is heavy guage rubber gloves a fairly strong acid mix and a wooden finger nail brush then you can get into the smearing quite well and definately wash it off.

    bearing for steel?

It is quite lightly loaded floor load only but has 4 trimmer beams spanning onto it. It is really just the span and the fact that there is no allowance for much deflection that the section size is big. The end reaction is around 70kN but has plenty of wall to spread it out. 70/5m= 14kN/m so...

    bearing for steel?

I have appropriate advice and a calc which shows that 100mm bearing is fine under a 254 UC. But people make mistakes and a discussion with a fellow had me questioning it. Thanks for the replies I now know that 100mm is fine as the wall is restrained. I got confused by single skin walls and tied...
