Just wondering if it is good practice to tie new foundations to the old ones or whether they should be seperated?

Cheers

Having recently done an ectension, tying into an existing build, BCO asked me to build foundations at least 200mm under the existing foundations, but no tying in was necessary.
The existing foundations was only about 500mm deep to top of concrete and new foundation was about 750mm deep to top, so new concrete was encouraged to flow under exisiting foundation. That was all that was required.

BCO just required photographic evidence to show it had been done.
