Rendering Extension - Planning Permission Required?

Hi, I was wondering if rendering an ugly brick extension and painting would require planning permission. I assume it would but wasn't sure. Thanks Chris

    Decking Design Guidelines

Thanks for explaining that WP! So if i use 6x2 framework - what kind of post separation will be required? Given that it is 2.4m x 4.8m (the main bit anyway) could i have two rows of posts about 1.4m apart leaving 0.5 m of 'overhang' either side or does the frame need supporting right on the...

    Decking Design Guidelines

Thanks for your reply Thermo! Is your approach here to have the frame/joists attached directly to the posts or to have beams connected to the posts and then attach the framework to the beams? I guess i'm confused as i've been reading all these american websites with their advice... 10 x 2...

    Decking Design Guidelines

Hello everyone, I'm about to embark on building some decking in my back garden. It is approximately 5m x 2.5m (plus a small extension of about 1.5m x 1.5m). I would like it to be level with the concrete path I have running around my property which leaves me with about a 12inch drop. I am...

Intermittent Hot Water - Alpha 240E

I think the reason he said PCB is that when the you turn the hot water tap off the boiler fires up again a couple of seconds later (the LED does not show a demand for HW or CH when it is doing this. Does this change your views in anyway about the heat exchanger/PCB? The HTG does seem to...

Intermittent Hot Water - Alpha 240E

I've had a guy out to look at the offending combi and he's diagnosed that it is one of two things: 1) Thermisters need replacing (~£35 parts and £65 labour) 2) Circuit Board needs replacing (£180 part and £25 labour) Does the diagnosis and costs involved seem reasonable? (i'm in the North...

    Laminate Under Door Frame Puzzle

thanks for the good idea but it's too late i'm afraid... shaved the click off the previous row using a chisel and the used PVA glue and a club-hammer ( ) to persuade the last row into place nicely.

    Laminate Under Door Frame Puzzle

Hi all, I've been laminating my hallway and it's nearly finished except for one of the last long runs of boards. This row has to fit under the doorframe (shown below) but I can't figure out how to do it! :? I'm moving towards the doorway so that causes complications. I have cut the frame...

    Replacement Clock/Timer - Alpha 240E

Thanks Paul again for another very good post! Not sure I want to go down the £80 route cos i'm tight but maybe when funds allow. Was also considering getting a programmable thermostat ~£25 also which would allow be to have the CH on constantly at the boiler clock unit and then have the...

    Replacement Clock/Timer - Alpha 240E

Hello, I use the inbuilt clock - a mechanical type rather than electronic - on my Alpha 240E to run the times when the heating is on/off. However, I've found i recent (cold) weeks that the clock just stops and so stays on constantly (until i notice) or off completely. Could you tell me if...

Intermittent Hot Water - Alpha 240E

Hello all, I've got the problem that when I run the hot water tap my Alpha 240E fires up as expected and then starts to deliver hot water normally. Just as you start to get the hot water coming through the boiler shuts off the burners meaning the hot water stops. Then 10 seconds or so later...
