    Reslating Advice

I'm In Scotland. So does that mean it is ok to nail the slates straightonto the "Sarking" (I assume this is the boarding that makes up the roof?) Why are the techniques different to England and Scotland? Thanks Again

    Reslating Advice

Hi, I was wandering if anyone could offer me a little advice? I have a "Lean Too" Garage on the side of my House that was built around 4 years ago. The Builder said he was able to slate the roof so I allowed him to do it. Anyway, the Roof has never been water proof and has alway leaked. Over...

Hi, I have a combi Boiler Potterton Performa 28i. I have had it for about 5-6 years now. When running the Hot Water, the Hot water never seems to be that Hot. I would say it was only quite warm. Put it this way, it never gets that hot you can't put your hand under it whilst its running...

    Combi Boiler Expansion Vessel

Hi, Could someone please clarify something for me? I have a combi boiler that when it is cold the nominal pressure is around 0.5bar. Once the heating is on and up to temp, the pressure sits at around 1.5bar. This makes sense to me as there is expansion taking place in the system, hence the...

    Potterton Combi Boiler Problems

Hi, I have a Potterton Performa Combi Boiler that has been acting a bit strange lately. The heating will come on as normal but then for no apparent reason it will stop. All Pressures remain as they should be and there are no fault indicators on. The only way to get the Boiler going again...

    Dumb Question on DC Motors!

I know this isn't House Electrics, but I thought someone might be able to help. When checking the resistance between the +ve & -ve Busbars on a large DC Motor, is it right to have a short Circuit? The DC Motor is a Brush Motor. Many thanks

    DC Motor as a Generator

As I understand it, the problem with a car Alternator is that it requires a really high rpm >2000. Anything less than this would produce little or no voltage. A DC Motor has permanent magnets in, meaning I don't waste energy from my turbine charging up the windings.

    DC Motor as a Generator

Hi, Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but anyway heres my question. Could anyone recommend a suitable DC Motor, that I can use as a Generator to charge a single 12V Car Battery? My plan is to Build a wind Turbine and generate the power that way. Don't worry I know I will need...

    Battery help

DESL I have a Four 21. At least thats what I think it is, I'm new to the sailing game. Its basically a 4 berth 21' Bilge Keeled sailing boat. It is my intention to install two batteries in the boat - that what I was hoping to get the other battery to work. I have been looking at a...

    Battery help

Hi DESL, The battery is for a Sailing boat with an inboard engine. So it is used for starting the engine and supplying onboard lights and electronics. The Dead Battery is not a deep cycle battery, as I got it off a 1000kVa Generator set (hence its quite big). I suppose I could winter...

    Battery help

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like its probably knackered then. What a shame! That battery would have been worth quite a bit too as it was quite a big one (640). Not to worry, I just picked up another battery from the scrappies for a tenner, works fine! What would you recommend...

    Batteries

Ok I know this isn't really DIY question, but nevermind! I have a Wet Cell Battery that I has been in my Garage for over a year. The Cells were dry, so I topped the battery up with water and put it on charge for about 6 hours using a 5A Charger. I now get 12.5v accross the terminals. Am I...

Would this be a suitable Cooker Switch?

Ok, now the cable from the CU is 10mm the length of run is approximately 9 - 10 metres. The cable from the present switch (45A) to the outlet is 6mm and is about 1m in length. The only reason I want to put this switch in is because the Wife wants that chrome effect and that range don't do...
