    mosaic tiles

My error...I should have stated that he'd need to fix the hardboard down. Wicks do a cheap flooring adhesive that really sticks! But then MDF would be a better substrate.

    Pipe to Gas Fire

It depends what you mean by "supply". Do you mean the main gas supply or an existing gas supply spur for a gas fire? B&Q sell a kit containing microbore pipe and fittings that might suit you if you have an existing spur. If you don't have one then the only sane advice is get a registered...

    Screwfix 2

that's a sneaky trick. I'll watch out for that. All the gear I order is for "home" use...sort of. I've renovated two flats from the ground up - and we've lived in them both while the work's been done - in the last two years and haven't had a single problem with anything supplied. I guess I've...

    mosaic tiles

I think I'd be inclined to lay PVA coated hardboard first to cover the entire area - giving an even, sealed suface for the tiles. If the floorboards are quite level already with no appreciable gaps, and all the nails well sunken, then I suppose you could lay onto them. But maybe a coat of PVA...

    Bathroom Door

I think there must be, arront. All my doors are about 760mm but the bathroom is 680mm. Being the idiot that I am I hadn't noticed this when I recently replaced all the doors in the flat. I had to cut the bathrom door down far more than the recommended 5mm per side. I got around it by over...

    Hole in radiator

After finishing the new bathroom - a rip-out and start again from scratch job - the radiator has sprung a pin-prick hole in the skin. I hadn't spotted the tiny rust spot when I stripped the old paint off and re-painted it. Can this be sealed with something like magicmetal, or is it a...

    Screwfix 2

After reading a recent post about screwfix - the gist being they stung somebody with an exrtra handling charge - I thought I'd post another view. I've spent the last 15 months completely renovating our Victorian garden flat and have purchased a small mountain of stuff from screwfix and not...

Solder lead not sticking to copper pipes?

Masona is right; your joint must be 100% clean first. Use wire wool rather than emry cloth - cloth leaves "dust" whereas wire wool doesn't. If you can open the joint first, clean the inside edges too, that way the solder has a clean surface to adhere to. Also run a smear of flux around the...

    Petroleum Jelly on carpet

You could try covering the affected spot with brown paper and then iron over it with the iron on its lowest setting. The brown paper should take up all the oil in the jelly. After that shampoo the area with stardrops or something similar. This works for wax as well!

    Twisted Pine Interior Door

Hello Daz, thanks for the speedy response. You've confirmed my fear. I had hoped there was some sneeky trick that a carpenter/chippie might pass on but hey ho. I suppose it's a lesson learnt. Thanks again Andy Cobweb

    Twisted Pine Interior Door

Hello everyone, This is the first time I’ve posted here but I’ve been reading for some time now and think this is a great forum. I have recently fitted some pine panel doors and have found that one of them has twisted from the mid-point to the top by approximately 25-30mm. I have to admit...
