    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

Thanks all.. I think I am sold on an external IP66 switch now, directly behind the existing switch (on the outside wall). That makes the most sense and would be easy and cheap to install...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

The original developer (Barrett Homes) would have done this.. But I guess the original owner is to blame for not objecting at the time... I certainly would.. I don't really need a neon.. The door has a pane of glass so its easy to see that the light is on. That said, the Neon is on when the...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

I don't think the "Kinetic" switches are unusal.. Whats more rare is a receiver which fits in a light socket and operates on Switched live.. Most of the generic wireless switches need live and netural so would need wiring into the rose.. And this may not be as difficult as I am thinking.. But...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

This should help understand what I am trying to do... Light switch is on the right.. Door is hinged on the right.. Door is open and gets in the way of the switch, so you have to close it behind you to get to the switch... Not actually so bad going in.. But coming out can be dangerous as you...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

:) Exactly... And if you drew a negative of that image (so its black) that might give you an idea of what its like at night.

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

ehhh? Its in the room.. Right behind the door.. So I have to go in, close the door behind me and then struggle to find the switch. I can't stress how dark it is.. I am on the edge of town so there is literally no light of any kind.. And once you go into the room you may as well close your...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

After you wrote this I had a look at Youtube and there are actually a few "presence" sensors.. One using 24ghz Radar to detect movement which apparantly works But this isn't the way I want to go as I would prefer a normal switch.

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

:) Not that "the other side of the door".. The current switch is on the hinge side so behind the door when I open it.. I want it on the other side so its easier to get to. This is a room above my garage which is in absolute darkness as there is no light of any kind.. So I want a way to switch...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

Exactly why I didn't consider a PIR.. I am not aware of a "presence" sensor either, but I suspect they would be possible to make (I can think of a few ways of how I would go about it) and certainly not cheap if they did...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

I did think about a PIR.. But they are really annoying when they time out and you are still in the room and you have to wave your arms around to activate it again... That said, I havnt' looked if there is a type which stays active for as long as you are moving and only shuts down when you have...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

Thanks... There are a few options from China which take L+N in and this could be retrofitted into the rose, rather than using the switch.. But would prefer to keep the original light switch location in situe and replace it with some kind of "receiver" (Like the Quinetic).. Even if the...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

Another option is live with it? Its not that important.. And certainly not worth £60 OR the cost of moving it.. I just wondered if there was a cheap option to do this.. If it was a room I use regularly, £60 would be worth it.. But this is a very low usage case and its a "nice to do" rather than...

    Alternative to Quinetic switches?

I have a room where the switch is on the wrong side of the door... Moving the switch would be a nightmare, so I have been thinking of a Wireless solution where I could have another switch on the correct side of the door. Most of the switches i have found require Live and Neutral and are not...

    Ideal HE12 Boiler still thumping

Thanks all.... Dropped Allen a message.. Lets see what he thinks.. If its the Main Exchanger which is at fault, I guess its time for a new boiler? I will check out the pump at the weekend and see what it looks like.. The only reason why I don't think its the pump is that it has a variable speed...

    Ideal HE12 Boiler still thumping

When you say pump.. Do you mean the CH pump? The pump seems to run fine but I am thinking that its something to do with the "water" side of the boiler... When i get the thumping it appears that the boiler is shutting down normally (i.e demand has gone or boiler reached temperature)... And I get...

    Ideal HE12 Boiler still thumping

What? even at the sink end? So this means I can't do any plumbing under my sink because the Condensate connects to it? So does this mean that when I fixed a leak under the plug in bowl, and installed my washing machine I was playing with 'gas'? For some reason, the boiler engineer I used isn't...

    Ideal HE12 Boiler still thumping

Right... But I am not going to start playing with the gas side of the boiler but I do need to know what is relevant and what not, when I get an engineer in... But I needed to get more info on your "fog horn" comment as I do get this very noise.. But its VERY quiet... And it comes directly from...

    Ideal HE12 Boiler still thumping

I guess.. But we never really got into any "gas" advice.. Everything we were talking about was gathering information/evidence for a boiler engineer...
