I am a little bit baffled... I am currently fitting a Franke tap like this:- http://www.sinks-taps.com/item-7424-AVERON_Pull_Out_Kitchen_Tap.aspx which is being fitted onto a standard stainless sink. I have fitted taps before and am au fait with the whole securing of the threaded stud & tails...

Fitting a Belfast sink - worktop overlap

Very nice jobs, they look stunning. I don't have the choice of using a 650+ worktop and setting the sink back, so will set the front face in line with the doors. Thanks for your help.

Fitting a Belfast sink - worktop overlap

When fitting a Belfast sink undermounted - I know you normally allow a 10mm overlap of worktop over the edge of the Belfast bowl at the back and sides, but how do you normally treat the front face? Should that come flush with the front edge of the worktop? or should the sink protrude beyond the...

    Sockets inside kitchen cabinets...

Thanks for the comments and help. We ended up cutting dry lining back boxes into the back of those cupboards where it was necessary to clear drawers or whatever and surface mounts in those where space isn't such an issue. Electrician is happy, so its all good.

    Sockets inside kitchen cabinets...

Fair enough! I will let the kitchen fitters do whatever else they can and come back to this once cleared with the sparks. Thanks all.

    Sockets inside kitchen cabinets...

All the sockets will be mounted in adjacent units, sorry I should have clarified that. So there is a dishwasher sized slot in the run of cabinets.... behind one of the cabinets next to the slot is the wire poking out of the wall.... onto which the socket will go. If I mount the sockets on the...

Non-return valve for water softener overflow - possible?

Thanks for the replies. Manufacturer said "Weeeell, they very rarely fail anyway... alot of people don't even bother to plumb in the overflow... its up to you really... if you don't have an outside wall, just do the best you can" ....click...brrrrrr... I have got a Hep VO trap, I will have a...

Non-return valve for water softener overflow - possible?

I am about to put a water softener in and see it needs two 'outlets' - one for the drain when regenerating and one for the overflow from the brine tank in case there is ever a problem. The instructions call for the overflow to go out through an outside wall and oveflow to atmosphere, but I...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Yes. The plastic cold pipes were wrapped in felt lagging and embedded in the screed. The copper pipes supplying radiator were sleeved in felt lagging, dropped onto the oversight then celotex over the top then screeded over, so they poke through the screed in their felt lagging Yes, I insisted...

Plumbing and joist drilling - any opinions on this?

I have a thread going in the Plumbing section here:- http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=263682 where it looks like there may be some issues for building control. Would anybody care to have a look and offer an opinion please? There are pictures on page 2 to illustrate...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Ok, a picture speaks a thousand words...... what do you think? In that last picture the pipes running across the photo in felt lagging are copper radiator pipes, the ones running up the photo in felt lagging are the cold supply and softened cold water pipe - the two...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Do you think you could point me to the regulations so that I can wave them at my plumber please? I was only able to find this:- http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1999/1148/schedule/2/made (Number 7) which doesn't mention the requirement for pipes to be removable, just that they can't be...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Thanks for the replies... I have been taking photos sporadically for my own interest anyway, so I will see if there are any there that show any problem areas. I actually rang the BCO for advice on what to do about pipes and stuff and it sounds like the plumber has laid them in accordance with...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Yes, Architect made a Building Regs submission and drawings etc., I know these have been approved and we have had a number of inspections (organised by builder at stages like pouring the footings, roof timbers in etc). I have checked with Building Control and they aren't scheduled for an...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

Hmmm.... well the holes in the joists are certainly not within the specs on that guide :x No, I am not project managing.... have told the builder to get on with it. However I have had to get quite involved trying to sort out cock-ups and keep steering in the right direction. I don't have...

My builder's plumber - should I be concerned about this?

We have the builders back in at the moment and the builder's plumber has been doing first fix..... I am noticing things that don't seem 100% to me and am wondering if I am just being anal or if I need to start making a fuss. For example:- running pipes in the floor to ceiling void meant going...

What is the right way of sealing natural stone for shower?

I am laying limestone in one place and polished travertine in another. Should I whip the limestone out of the boxes, brush them off (with a new paintbrush or something) and give them a coat of sealer before fixing them up then? Out of interest, what gaps would you go for? I am leaning towards...
