no hot water, heating won't go off

Friend of mine has a Baxi back boiler, hot water cylinder, and 3-port valve (not sure if diverter or mid-position until I see it, though guessing mid-position). She says that she stopped getting hot water yesterday, and the heating won't go off when she turns the programmer to CH off. I'm...

    leaking isolation valve

No good reason, other than trying to put off that job until it definitely has to be done for other work to be carried out in the spring. Thanks for clarifying the situation with the valve though.

    leaking isolation valve

Thanks Softus. I'll monitor it over the next few days (and no fiddling - promise!). Failing that though, any alternatives that might see me through a few months before the system really does need to be drained down? Access to the screw head isn't really an issue 'til then. Some sort of tape...

    leaking isolation valve

Got a 22mm isolation valve on the return pipe just under the boiler, and it's weeping from the (flat-head) screw. I know these type of valves do this and should be replaced, but I'm just wondering if anyone has had any luck with temporary fixes in this situation. Don't want to have to drain down...

    Keston C40 room/weather compensation

That's the conclusion I have come to: that the only way to control the motorized valves is by having the "OT box" (Ramses 855) as well as the 850 unit. As Xanda asks, can anyone confirm this? Thanks

    Keston C40 room/weather compensation

Some help required please, Have recently had installed the following: Keston C40 (opentherm compatible) boiler Keston Spa 210 unvented cylinder. It's an S-plan system. Want to get the most out of the modulating features of the boiler in conjunction with weather/room compensation...

    Swirl website/chrome pipe collars

Hi there, I'm trying to get hold of a pair of chromed pipe collars (concealing plates/pipe trims) for 15mm pipes - the tails that emerge through the tiles to feed a shower mixer valve. Anyone know where I can get some, ideally cheaper than "Home of Chrome" (£8 each!). I've seen several...

    replacing bathroom extractor fan

Hi there, I need to replace an existing 4 inch bathroom exrtactor fan. It's situated directly over the bath (and mixer shower head) and I'm pretty sure it's not 12V - can't see a transformer. A few questions: Does the new fan have to be low voltage, as the existing fan isn't (i.e. is...

electric shower for low running pressure

Many thanks Seco. That looks like it fits the bill. Now to try and find a stockist! May be I'll just order through Plumbcenter.

electric shower for low running pressure

Afraid it's a flat, with a combination cylinder about 1m above the level of the shower head. Though wouldn't the sort of shower you mention be suitable for a low mains pressure situation?

electric shower for low running pressure

Hi there, Anybody know of an electric shower suitable for situations where the mains pressure (dynamic) is less than 1 bar? The static pressure at peak times is around 1.5 to 2 bar, but the dynamic pressure is approx 0.8 bar. Thanks

    leaking cistern/flushpipe connection

Sorry, I didn't make my question very clear in that last post. What I was getting at was, could the cause of the leak be the fact that I'm using a modern siphon (Delchem 9.5") with an old cistern, and the outlet sizes are incompatible? - though I have to say, the siphon flange and washer do...

    leaking cistern/flushpipe connection

I'll certainly try the builders merchants Seco - thanks

    leaking cistern/flushpipe connection

Oh, and by the way.... are the outlets on cisterns a standard size? So if I compare the (flush) outlet diameter of my old 9 litre cistern with a modern dual-flush jobby (if you'll pardon the expression), should it be the same? What I'm getting at - in a roundabout way - is: have siphon outlet...

    leaking cistern/flushpipe connection

It appears that in my haste to register and post, I "mis-clicked" with regards to my location. This is similar to mis-speaking - ask Hilary Clinton! Help re tracking down a 2 gallon cistern would still be welcome!

    leaking cistern/flushpipe connection

Thanks Seco. I had a sinking feeling that the crack was going to be the problem, however insignificant it looks. Anyone know a good place to pick up a cheap 2 gallon cistern in South London (side entry inlet and overflow)? I'm not changing the pan so I believe this doesn't contravene the...
