Electric Plane Recommendation for DIY novice

Any cheap plane will do if you're going to use it just a few times. I noticed an old Wolf 8657 on ebay at the moment. It's classic quality japan makita.

Thanks fellas. The only problem with doing things differently is that it may well come back to bite you in the future.

    sticking scrim tape

Scrim tape sticks well to nice clean dry plasterboards but that's about it. it refuses to stick to anything else. The other day i tried spraying the wall with a little bit of spray glue (carpet glue), and the tape sticks to it like you know what to a blanket. The question is. does anyone else do...

    scrapping a caravan

My old lunar eclipse is coming to the end of its life. A friendly farmer said he would take it off my hands for £20. I think I'd rather strip all the alu off , burn the wood, and maybe use the chassis as s flat bed trailer . The question is has anyone tried this ? can the chassis be used as a...

    SBR for render

Hi Glen. sbr slurry mix will kill any suction, no need to add water , just mix it with cement, paint it on ,and let it dry. I would have painted it on to the block work before the scratch coat. those celcon blocks are very thirsty.

Crazy kitchen worktop idea - travertine tiles under glass?

Hi Dan. I don't think your idea's too daft. I don't think weight's an issue, granite would be much heavier. there are some very good clear silicones that could go in between the tiles and glass. The problems I see are, cutting the glass to the shape you need, holes for sinks cookers etc. Also as...

    Shower seal (and wife) problem

A moving shower tray isn't a good sign. If your shower's up stairs I would think about ripping it out and starting again, you don't want water rotting the floor joists.

    Builder

Labour only? Why? Were you trying to save money by sourcing materials and managing it yourself? Maybe you should have paid him on a day rate . I don't know many good builders who would accept your terms, it all seems a bit vague.

    Walko work benches/stations

Looks quite good, but I like to stand on my B&D workmate, also cover it with loads of plaster ' then throw it in the van , then leave it out the back garden to clean off. You don't want to know how badly I treat my saw horses.

    New drill required

I've given up on 18v cordless for drilling holes in walls, and now use a corded sds for walls and a 10.8 bosch for everything else. If it's warranty you want , Wickes offer 5 years on their pro (kress) range. Apparently you bring the broken tool in with your receipt and they replace with it...

    Ceilings

When I'm fitting a ceiling by myself, I always use two dead-men. It can be quite tricky fitting ceiling boards by yourself, you'll need to be pretty strong, getting a helping hand is a good idea, tho too many hands can complicate things, you'll also need a few hop-ups, or good solid steps...

tile levelling clips. Has anyone used them?

The tiles I used were 450x450. To be fair the clip makers say that the floor must be flat. and they're not designed to solve uneven floor problems. I've still got a few left over, so if I ever get to lay those really large format shiny tiles, I may well try the clips again.

tile levelling clips. Has anyone used them?

Sorry to drag this old post back , but for anyone interested , I've now tried these clips and my advice to anyone is, don't bother. Basically they work but they're so tricky to use and they force you to change your technique, I ended up making one hell of a mess and the clips also have a...

problem when applying silicone with the correct tool

aah. The age old question of how to get the perfect silicone bead. I've been trying for years and still haven't mastered it. I tend to use fugenboy tool like yours, It's quite helpful to apply the initial bead from the applicator gun, quickly and accurately . I cut the nozzle at 90° and push...

    Silverline Tools?

I know there's a lot of people above writing silverline off. I have a silverline plaster mixer from the silver storm range, and I have to say it's pretty good. only time will tell. It's such a big company you have to use your own judgement on wether a product is worth the money.
