    distemper

My knowledge of plastering is pretty basic (bonding, multifinish, boardfinish). I was asked to look at a job in a grade 2 listed building and they talked of distemper. could anyone enlighten me, or should I leave it to the specialists. Thanks

    Bosch GFK600

I can't help sorry. I used to think they were pretty pointless and unstable with no handles. but on closer inspection I like the look of the interchangeable bases. especially the one that you can adjust to different angles. that could solve problems that normal routers couldn't. But I guess this...

    Work boots... which ?

I'm with you jeepman. I've survived on cheapish boots for years. but I thought I'd treat myself to to what I thought was the rolls royce of work shoes , but unfortunately they turned out to be ladas or what ever's lame in the car world these days. ps. I've seen those lidle boots. Not too sure...

    silicon in internal corner

There only has to be a tiny bit of movement between the two walls and a crack will appear, only, it's the worst type of crack because its almost impossible to see, and is a real slow burner, or slow rotter if you like. personally I run a small bead of silicone on every internal angle.

    Work boots... which ?

Don't be fooled by the pleasing aesthetics of the DeWalt logic safety trainers. They're an expensive heap of sh**e.

Do I Have to Skim Aquapanel?

Hi Alrob. I've done loads of shower cubicles, baths etc. and the method that seems foolproof, well it certainly works for me is. 1. make sure the floor is solid. 2. screw aqua panel/ hardi backer board to the wall studs, making sure they go down to the floor. 3.stick the shower tray in with...

    If 007 was into DIY......

Looks amazing , but I'm always suspicious of companies that copy other companies colour schemes, and it all looks a bit Festoolish to me.

    Offered Something Else Besides Money

I once got asked by a woman in the street if I was a plumber, because she had lost the keys to her filing cabinet. to cut a long story short, I opened the cabinet and she offered me money, but I said no , so she gave me the most amazing curry I've ever tasted. magic :D

    Freud FT 2002 VCE

Has anyone got one of these? I've seen one at cash generators for £50, It seems to have all the bits, plus a 30mm guide bush in its box. I have at the moment a Bosch GOF 1300 CE. but I've lost the plate with 30mm guide attached, i also have no parallel guide. The question is , should I ditch...

    Plastering complete newbie

Hi Ab' Unless your plastering a very rough wall you wont need bonding, just two coats of multi finish as suggested above. By the look of your photo you did not apply PVA to the wall first, hence the cracking. I think you'll have to scrape it off and start again. there's tonnes of advise on how...

    DIY plastering

Dru . There are many knowledgable Real plasterers on here. But the question was. will you be able to skim your own house after a 4 day course. well I think the answer is ,yes. 'tho I think ones eye becomes more critical with experience. I look at the work i done years ago and I see walls full...

Neatest way to apply silicone between floor/wall ?

I've got the fugenboy from screwfix, which is simular to the fugi. In my experience ,I find it excellent, well worth £10, but you still get stepping when used on tiling, and I wouldn't entertain it on mosaics.

The fastest tiler in the west????

Doing such a simple run doesn't prove a thing. I noticed he didn't put spacers between the worktop and the first row of tiles. That could cause problems if there's movement in the worktop. A bit cowboyish really.

    Pebbledash

Thanks Roughcaster. As it happens the match worked out ok. most of my pebbledash fell off, but so had the pebbles on the original wall.

Not sure I am cut out for tiling!

First of all congratulations , on what looks like a very neat job. As for speed I learned a lot from a young Polish lad. After attaching his baton and measuring the centre of the wall, He then opened up a tub of readymix adhesive and with his trowel dabbed the whole lot in to the wall, then he...
