    Volvo V70 engine management light

I would also suggest finding a specialist forum on the Net. I found one for my Seat Alhambra (read Ford Galaxy) and it has been really helpful. Like this one for DIY, you can glean a lot of knowledge. My opinion of the main dealers I have dealt with is that most of them know almost nothing...

    Scratch marks on glass

When I worked in a TV manufacturing plant, we used jewellers rouge to remove minor scratches in the tube glass. The scratch was completely polished out and the sets were sold as new.

    Minor acrylic bath repair

I have just dropped the tap head into my new acrylic bath during installation. It has nicked a small 1mm x 3mm chip out of the bottom of the bath. Although it is only cosmetic it is b****y annoying. Do these chip kits work that well? Will I be able to make this vanish completely? I have...

    Dangerous Habit Drinking From Cans.

I've never really liked the current trend of drinking from the bottle in pubs. I was brought up in a pub and have seen where the crates are stored before a quick dust down before putting on the shelf. Just think, a lot of pubs have dogs. Dogs like to 'mark' new things in their patch. Crates are...

    15mm to 1/2 inch

Just to note. You can still buy the imperial olives for 3/4 pipe. Got mine from Plumb Center at their inflated 'member of the public' prices. But no water for 2 days and a baby in the house, I wouldhave paid anything!!

    Laying Karndean vinyl planking

There have been a number of old posts on this stuff unanswered. (Karndean vinyl planking) Thought I would try again. Anybody got any tips? I intend doing the job myself by laying thin ply over my new chipboard floor. I intend to use screws that only go into the chipboard thickness. Is this...

    15mm to 1/2 inch

It does. But I found out the hard way that 3/4 and 22mm are not compatible. You can get copper reducers or imperial olives that fit 22mm fittings. If soldering it is tempting to try but believe me it won't work.

    15mm to 1/2 inch

Don't know the answer to your question directly but you can use 15mm compression off 1/2 inch and a short copper stub could go to plastic.

    Extended Guarantee

Just something that might suprise you about CC's. Capital One have a very cunning (read abominable) practice. If you draw cash on your CC not only do you pay daily interest from the day you drew it (this is the same for most CC's), you may never pay off the interest!! See the link which...

    Extended Guarantee

Exactly - I don't believe their answer for a moment. Either it was costing them too much or else they are not getting extra business from it. I don't have a Barclaycard myself but their benefits are quite good. Offset by their large interest rate - which doesn't vary like the Bank base rate now...

    Extended Guarantee

I have heard a rumour that Barclaycard will be dropping this soon which will be a shame. Rumour came about from my sister in law who was ripped off on ebay to the tune of £350. Got the money back through Barclaycard and was told that not enough people took advantage of the extended guarantee...

    Fixing Panels onto framework

I am currently converting an old bedroom into a bathroom and one side of the (large) room is to be boxed in to hide pipework and the cistern, with a narrow worktop along the entire length (approx 14ft). As all the wet stuff (shower and bath) are some way away, I am using MDF sheets in 6 panels...

    pc on 24/7 ?

CRT tubes are almost a perfect vacuum inside. When they implode they spread the glass everywhere. They usually have a tight metal band around them to reduce this dangerous effect.

    pc on 24/7 ?

Firstly I'm not a Mac user. But the results on the site I linked to are not necessarily wrong just because the guy likes his Mac's. I agree there are plenty of machines (especially newer models) which have very low standby settings but from my own experience it is easy to think that the machine...

    Motherboard & CPU upgrade woes

How would you know if a capacitor was leaky? This doesn't normally mean that they leak anything visible.

    pc on 24/7 ?

The comments on unreleased memory blocks (memory leaks) can be a very real issue with some 'bad' software. Early versions of Microsoft word were prone to this. This has nothing to do with fragmentation of the hard disk, this is to do with the system RAM being constantly allocated and not...

    Ebay PayPal

This system can be used and in fact I have seen it recommended for ebay transactions over £250. It is operated by various escrow services for which there is a small charge.

    Laminate flooring in bathroom

Something else though regarding floor tiles. I have found in the past problems getting stuff to stick to chipboard. It has a sort of shiny finish which doesn't like any adhesives. I saw a previous post where someone had problems with tiles in a kitchen. I have also had problems with vinyl...

    Laminate flooring in bathroom

Thanks for the replies. I found the 'tent effect' stuff in an earlier post and this concerns me. Raising the toilet is not a problem and would actually be beneficial as I am struggling for enough fall anyway. Whatever I do I think I will cut around the WC as I don't want it to move.

    Laminate flooring in bathroom

Just getting to the stage where I want to lay the flooring in my new bathroom. My wife wants a wood effect (light oak). We were originally looking at Amtico or similar but at around £1000 I was looking at cheaper options - water resistant laminate. I have a few questions. 1) I have been...
