    quick puzzle.

Brick will be more dense than water because it sinks therefore the effect whilst in the boat will be to displace more water than its volume (making the lake level rise) than when it is in the lake itself where it displaces its volume therefore the lake level will drop?

    cam belt check

As someone who has been caught twice with a broken cambelt and smashed the engine both times, don't take a chance. If you can get it done you have piece of mind. (First time Toyota main dealer serviced from new (by previous owner). I got it at 120k, belt snapped smashing camshaft. When my...

    air con

I have a Seat Alhambra 1.9 and I had the Air con regassed at a main agent. Worked for a whole week and was fairly cold. For warranty work I would use a Seat agent but I could tell you horror stories about them wriggling out of warranty work but that is another issue. I would use an aircon...

    Phone socket interference

Do you have ADSL filters on all your connected handsets (or basestation)? Normally you need to unless the system is wired such that all extensions go through one filter on the master socket.

Glass for a Carolina Hardwood Door

Hi, I have fitted a new Hardwood Carolina back door. The door came from Howdens but just about everyone seems to do it. It did not come with the glass which is four identical pieces that are roughly shaped like slices of pizza. Is this something my local glass place will be able to cut from a...

    MDF Window Board

Thanks for the reply. Are we talking about the same stuff here? I'm talking about bull nose window board that is pre-primed MDF. Are you talking about MDF sheets? I must admit I hadn't even thought about cutting out from a sheet of 18mm and routing the bull nose but a purpose made window board...

    MDF Window Board

Hi, I have recently refitted my kitchen which was a total strip out, floor up ceilings down etc. I have replaced all my internal window sills with MDF window board (219mm wide I think) with a bull nose. I have one more to do but the recess is a little deeper than the rest and I need about...

Can I lay real wood oak floor 'dry'?

Ah, that might be the case because I didn't unpack it and it states that it has adhesive and I was expecting a seperate roll of tape. That may explain it.

Can I lay real wood oak floor 'dry'?

Thanks guys for the replies. One final question - I have bought the combined DPC and underlay. What sort of tape do I need to join the pieces? The place I got the underlay didn't appear to have the tape. The bloke in the shop stated masking tape just to hold it together. I beg to differ if you...

Can I lay real wood oak floor 'dry'?

Thanks for the reply. The tiles are very hard black (ceramic?) tiles and are very well fixed down. The wood is not the click type but around 15mm boards with square T&G on all 4 sides. I know the click stuff does not need to be glued but not sure about this stuff. The stuff I want to use has...

Can I lay real wood oak floor 'dry'?

Hello, I've read a fair bit on this forum about real wood floors and it appears that the route preferred by most if laying on a concrete floor is to lay it floating rather than glue it down to the concrete. I want to lay around 50m2 of oak which is around 110mm wide random length T&G...

    Boxing in a steel

I have a new 'I' section steel I need to box in with plasterboard and am trying to workout the best way to do it. Above the steel is a wooden wall plate which leaves around a 1" ledge of 'steel' along the length on both sides. My plan is to place battens along the wall plate which will...

Cost of laying polished procelain tiles

I've just had 400 x 400 porcelain tiles laid. I supplied tiles and adhesive £20/m for 20 metres. They were layed on a self levelled floor on Mapei Adesilex P10. Don't know what the underlay thing is about. Also I think polished porcelain may need to be sealed as the polishing reveals tiny pores...

    WHY'S MY PLASTERING CRACKING?????

sounds to me like you have too much suction on the background. PVA the area with a 3:1 mix, let it dry, then another coat 2:1 and skim while tacky.
