    Please help fixing hedge trimmer

I wouldn't even do this to be honest - disconnect it from the mains and take it apart to see whether the cable is intact. If you can't see any obvious damage, bin it and buy another as its possibly not worth wasting time on, particularly when they're so cheap these days.

When you come across the various rude, ignorant, arrogant c*nts on this forum, just add them to your Ignore list, the moderators don't give a crap and give them free reign to insult and patronise. There's some great people in the Electrics UK forum, don't let a few w*nkers irritate you, ignore...

Garden PIR install from radial light circuit?

Did my opening question ask for a response concerning the legality of the work that I am conducting? Where did I mention a 'friends house'? And again I ask, do you drive specifically to the limit on the public highway? If not, you're also breaking the law and risking your life every day...

Garage Electrics provided by downstairs mains ring

Hi, thanks for your reply. 1. Yes, the downstairs ring is RCD protected, the socket from which the FCU spur branches is on this ring. 2. I can't confirm that this cable is steel armoured until I cut the power, remove the FCU and strip back the sheaving on the cable that runs to the garage...

Garden PIR install from radial light circuit?

Thanks for the clarification...do you speed on public highways? Its illegal, and just a few MPH above the limit could get you killed...Now keep your rude, patronising, arrogant posts to yourself and f*ck off from thread. We're DIYers, that's the purpose of this forum, we ask questions because...

Garage Electrics provided by downstairs mains ring

Hi, thanks for your reply - I appreciate that it is never clear-cut without knowing the specifics - I will attach some photos to assist. I haven't touched any of the electrics (or disconnected) so can't confirm the conductor size, but the cable overall is itself 10mm diameter, it is then...

Garden PIR install from radial light circuit?

Just got a call-back from the Building Regs department of my local council - he commented that it was rare that they'd ever get involved in minor fittings like this as most are performed under the 'competent professional' scheme, i.e. electricians. He did agreed that the regulation is...

Garage Electrics provided by downstairs mains ring

I'm stripping apart my house during renovation, part of which I have found an FCU in my dining room, the supply to this FCU is from my downstairs mains ring circuit, the load is a heavy duty armoured cable that runs through the wall and outside the house travelling approximately 20m to my...

    Boring lighting diagram check!

Hi EFL, thanks for your reply. Most down-lighters have a minimal 2 terminal block connector attached and so I'd have to replace it to give me the additional terminals and then enclose it, by the time I've done that I might as well have used a junction box. My intention is to use a small...

    Boring lighting diagram check!

I'm sure you're bored of these but just wanted to check my wiring proposal (in simple form) to wire in two 240v down-lighters and a new switch. Its likely that I could get away with 1mm cable but I have lots of 1.5mm and this will cater for future addition of more down-lighters should it be...

Garden PIR install from radial light circuit?

Thanks John, I see your point, I'm going to call Building Regs tomorrow and see what they saw! I'll let you know :o)

Garden PIR install from radial light circuit?

Hi John - thanks for your input, I doubt that anyone expects anything less of 'BAS'...he's best placed on Ignore. The way that I interpret the regulation is "lamp capacity does not exceed 150 Watts per light fitting", therefore a PIR light such as that to which I linked has 'two' light...
