    Minor Works Certificate for DIY’ers.

In a sense it's a pity - if we 'could' say it, to get a significant proportion of DIYers to heed advice to "at least do (easy/cheap) tests X, Y & Z, even though that would be enough to satisfy BS7671)", Missing "not" Could we not have a sticky that lists the full and correct tests that should...

Bath drainage at a standstill - have I messed up my waste ru

Which pipe is actually draining the basin? Which way is the flow meant to be? Is it from right to left on your photos?

Bath drainage at a standstill - have I messed up my waste ru

Before you deal with the cowl (the bit in green) remove the cross tap handle. Is there a retaining but under the top cover or a grub screw in the handle?

Downstairs toilet basin sink -32mm to 21mm possible?

Presume you mean the basin and not the WC! Two incoming supply pipes 15mm (hot and cold) and one 21 mm outlet pipe. So what will happen if both taps are on full and the overflow comes into play when the basin fills? Up to you.

    Artex/asbestos advice please

Thinking of the air around a former asbestos factory and what that has contributed to the ambient air I reckon that your relative to contribution could not be measured nor any trace found on your furnishings. Don't forget that asbestos was already only a small part of the artex and was partly...

    Artex/asbestos advice please

The worry is totally excessive for an infinitesimally small risk of contamination. Even if you changed everything you own, would you worry about whether the replacements might have been "contaminated" from the factory or shop during its production? How much risk do you have to ignore during...

Brushing artex have I exposed myself to asbestos?

You are obviously worried but nobody can give you the absolute reassurance you want. If you have been exposed, what would you now be able to do about it and what benefit would you get from knowing? Is the ceiling even definitely an asbestos containing artex? Exposure does not inevitably, or...

New DIY idea.... your feedback needed!

It looks quite ugly. Would not the first securing screw tear the back flap slit "thread" rather than tightening it up securely enough against the plasterboard?

    advice with quote discrepancy

In this case the work is finished, so the customer is in the strongest position. This business of giving estimates to get the job, then calculating the real costs as it goes along leaves all the risk with the customer. Unless that is clearly explained then I don't see why a non-trade...
