    Re-roofing kitchen extension

I need some more advice  The roofer in question knocked on our door about an hour ago to give me his card and remind me that it needs doing, and that our neighbour has been hassling him to get on to us about sorting it out I've had another look at the roof, and all the tiles look...

    Re-roofing kitchen extension

Thanks for the reply I'm just going off what i've been told. We haven't had a leak, and i cant see how it can leak through our roof and then run through to next door :? As for access, I have access to ladders and its only a small/low roof so shouldn't be a problem (he says!)

He said that would be including materials, so i'm assuming he meant the felt.

    Re-roofing kitchen extension

We live in a two bed terraced with a single storey kitchen extension that shares a sloped roof with the neighbouring house. It's a slate roof, and the neighbour has had a leak and had his roof re-laid. The roofer that was doing the work said that the leak came from our side and that the felt...

Point me in the right direction

Thanks Aqua Got up nice and early this morning to get cracking and it's pi**ing it down  Only thing is, i don't have a barrow, so i'm using a bucket to mix the sand/cement. It runs out quicker, but it's not a huge wall so shouldn't be a problem. :)

Point me in the right direction

No worries mate, thanks for the advice :) I'm not too fussed about it being perfect as it's the wall at the back of the yard. I just like to do a job right, even if i have to learn while i'm doing it...this usually means that 75% of the job is crap and the last 25% looks ok

Is this bad plastering look at my pics

We had our whole bathroom plastered (admittedly it's not big) including bonding and skimming for £160 and it was a near perfect job.

Point me in the right direction

Sorry to post again    I've pointed 3 rows of bricks on the wall. I was using a hawk and pointing trowel with a 3:1 mix of sand/cement. I found it difficult to press the mortar into the joint and ended up getting a lot on the face of the bricks. I was also having...

Point me in the right direction

Thanks for the reply. I've just started with a hammer and cold chisel chopping out the mortar. The wall is in a pretty bad state, and after i've knocked out a line of mortar underneath the top row of bricks, there are a few loose bricks and the joints are full of dirt. I'm a little...

Point me in the right direction

Sorry about the title  Some of the pointing at the back of the house needs doing, both on the yard wall and the rear wall of the house under the DPC. I'm going to have a go at it myself, but need a few tips: Do I just buy any old sand and cement, or is there a specific type for...

    Stagnent Miele Dishwasher

The screw on cover on the salt dispenser in my dishwasher has been removed in the past and is nowhere to be found! There seems to be quite a large void at the bottom of the machine that fills up with water and bits of food and gets very smelly after a couple of days, so i'm having to flush it...

    Cracked Bath

thanks for the reply mate. I'll stick to showers for the time being to prevent a tidal wave down the stairs

    Cracked Bath

Hi We bought a shower/bath suite from B&Q before Christmas and I've just noticed a small crack in the acrylic bath  just where the floor starts to curve upwards. I've checked underneath and it seems to be all dry. Is the Acrylic just a cosmetic vaneer or will this eventually leak...

    Engineered or solid?

I'm looking to replace the cheap laminate flooring that we have throughout the ground floor, and have been perusing the internet for a couple of weeks to find a nice replacement. I've Worked out that the area is approx 28 square metres which will give me a budget of around £17/Square M...

    Combi recomendations

I thought i'd put a close to this thread because I received a lot of useful advice!! I went down the repair route in the end, bought a new diaphragm and fan from www.keeptheheaton.com (£107 including o' ring kit) and fitted them myself. The boiler is now working very well indeed and i can't...

    Gates

The gate to the back of our yard has seen better days and now hangs (just) at an angle and is pretty much rotten through :!: I've had a bit of a search on the internet, but the places i'm finding seem to do bespoke expensive stuff that i cant afford :( It's approx 6'2" tall and 4' wide...

What kind of bad surprises behind the wall paper ?

In my limited experience, the worst thing that could happen is that you find decaying plaster that likes to fall off the walls  Or 12 layers of wallpaper, each one being harder to take off than the last. It's all part of the learning process of buying a house :D
