Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

It's a Vailant Eco something... When you say 'its gonna evantually remove all system pressure', is eventually more rapid than a week. Sounds like it might be worth giving this sealant a go? Haven't heard of any definate NO's to the product. I will still check what you said first. Thanks

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Hi Jamesie, Just curious, but your point about the pressure relief possibly not being properly seated, could this result in a slow leak, 1 week between havign to recharge the system? Ha, as I am typing this I think I have just remembered that when the boiler was installed 3 yrs ago, the...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Thanks to both for your responses. It's enough water loss to stop the combi from producing hot water and the pressure gauge is as low as it goes. I will follow advice and check the pipe that drains from the combi outside. Would almost be relieved if that was the problem (I think).. Definately...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Hi guys, Very concerned as only 6 months ago, we finished a long slog of haveign downstairs renovated with an extension and new solid wood flooring Installed. We have a combi boiler and over the last 3 weeks I have had to top up the system twice due to lost pressure. This is suggesting a...

Treated or non treated timber for exterior gate to be painte

Thanks Foxhole. Very valid point, however you see lots and lots of painted exterior timber, whether it be garage doors, picket fences, fascias, windows etc. A raw unpainted gate just isn't going to look good against the house. I'd still like to know whether it would be best made from...

Treated or non treated timber for exterior gate to be painte

Hi Guys, About to build a gate for the front of the alley between mine and my neighbours house. Idea is vertical timber planks on a frame and hinged either side. What is the best timber to use for this. I seem to recall being told not to use treated timber as you can't paint it??? Not...

    Matt masonary stabalizer

Hi chaps, Any of you come across a good matt masonary stabalizer or sealant? I want to seal some pebble dashing. I used stabiliser on two sides to then paint. Done a great job at fixing loose stones, but has a horrible cream glossy varnish colour when dry. The plan was to leave the front...

    Earthing of outdoor lighting

Thanks all for your advice. On a slightly different subject, I connected the last of the lights tonight and out of excitement, just before it got too dark, I wanted to do a quick test. The electrician had left the armoured cable with connector blocks taped up until I was ready for this. To...

    Earthing of outdoor lighting

Thanks All, Sounds like the consensus is to keep the continued earth back to the RCD/DIS board, but have an extra earthing rod on the very last light. This is easy for me to do and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Out of interest, rather than running an extended earth wire to a rod in the...

    Earthing of outdoor lighting

Hi all, Sorry if I was not very clear, go tinto the office after a train trip to work and thought I'd quickly post the question. JohnW2 is correct in that I was wondering whether the lights needed something like an earth rod. I do have continuity of the earth from each light, through the...

    Earthing of outdoor lighting

Hi Guys, I am wiring up some garden lighting. The lighting are a series of 6 bollard style aluminium lights set on hard wood timber bases in the flower beds. I have a dedicated feed from the dis board to an outside point and armoured cable with junction boxes screwed to the fence at each...

Kiln dried sand vs Silver sand

Hi All, Been searchign the web for the best sand to place in a new sandpiut I just built for our little un. Advise is to always use Play sand, as builders sand stains and has carcenogenics etc. Sounds like mothers getting their nickers in a twist to be honest. They even advise against beach...

Using PVA to seal exposed chimney brickwork?

Thanks John. Yes essentially trying to seal the bricks. As an alternative to sealing, what's best to clean them, a chemical cleaner or good old wire brush. It's not just a thin stain of soot, but thick and old.

Using PVA to seal exposed chimney brickwork?

Hi guys, As part of renovations, our old chimney was opened up and an oak sleeper installed as a lintel. We will eventually get a wood burner installed, but in the mean time we have nice exposed brickwork at the back. Keen to keep this, but there is quite a bit of black soot. What are my...

Building (labour & material) Costs for rear extension

Wow guys, My post appears to have come back to life after almost a year. I ended up building the extensions. In short, demolished the old extension and dug out about 3 slabs myself. Half dug the trenches and paid some cheap labour for one extra day. Didn't use a skip, but rather a...

Extremely cold floor in new extension?

Stuart, that's one thing I'm not certain of as we left on holiday while we had some of the dirty work done. I know their is rock wool type insulation between the joists, which I find hard to believe with the temp of e floor.

Extremely cold floor in new extension?

The other thing that confuses me is that this is a standard 1930 terraced house where the rest of the flooring is also suspended timber. Why is the rest of the flooring notably warmer and pleasant.
