    Garage ceiling

I am thinking of dropping down the ceiling in the integral garage and replacing it as it has holes left from previous owners and this makes cold air drafts come into the bathroom above it Questions are basically, what is the material called that is up there at the moment, its 8' x 4' sheets...

    Fence posts

I'd agree with Thermo, he's rarely wrong!! go 2' foot down, the extra 6" will make a world of difference in strength. If you need 6 foot and gravel board then go with 9' posts and cut them down to 8' 6" if you need.

    Fence posts

I got advised 75mm for the waney edge in my front garden but 100mm for the closeboard in the rear garden. That said I wish I had gone for 100 all round, much more sturdy and well worth the price difference

I have begun to notice various cracks occuring around the house and was looking for a quick 2nd opinion as to what to do, most have followed recent work:- 1] I had the porch dot and dab'd and then skimmed 18 months ago, I have now got a vertical hairline crack running top to bottom presumably...

    Lintel Removal

Yeah, he seems happy enough to come and do the work and knock through etc, but has said that it would be cheaper to leave lintel in. This I knew and hadn't even mentioned doing it cheaply so I took it meant he wasn't keen taking it out.

    Lintel Removal

Wondered if I could get some advice regarding a lintel. In my last house I had an extension put on the front of the kitchen and when I asked how we could disguise the original lintel for the then removed window the builder suggested that we remove it completely and change it to steel RSJ that...

I wonder if I can get a 3rd, 4th and 5th opinion etc. about my shower. I have a combined shower enclosure supplied via a pump that was fitted in the airing cupboard next to the shower. When it came to fitting the pump I admitted to not knowing enough about how to go about plumbing it so asked my...

    £1300

Oilman, Why is there a need to get on my case over the wording in my reply to some queries on the topic. In your eyes it may be a silly and innacurate statement but it was meant as merely a statement of facts as to why I was sourcing parts myself. As for me undercutting the plumber, he...

    £1300

To answer some questions: 1] The reason I am supplying parts is that my brother-in-law runs a plumbers merchant and it would be criminal not to supply parts via him, I am not trying to undercut the plumber just save money where it is justifiable. 2] Tank disposal is being dealt with by a...
