    How to drain radiator ?

Thanks That's exactly what I have. I have a funnel/tube and am planning to add to the radiator at the top (the hole covered by flat hexagonal head). So I should turn off both valves connecting radiator to CH (the one on the drain-off & the one on the other side, by turning the plastic...

    How to drain radiator ?

Hi This is a really basic question. There is a drainage tap on my downstairs radiator, which I wish to use in order to add some Sentinel X100 & X200 to the CH system. It has a small square bolt protruding from the side (looks as though a key should fit it, but my radiator bleed key is...

    ? problem with Potterton Suprima 50 L

Thanks But wouldn't overheating cause some sort of warning / lockout light on the boiler ? Problem is HeatTeam cover is only for boiler, and only in office hours, so they may not find anything wrong with boiler & not be able to help .. :( I do have Home Emergency cover with my insurance...

    ? problem with Potterton Suprima 50 L

Please someone ? What could the be the possible causes of a boiler not responding to a call for heat from the thermostat ? The strange thing is it works in the morning (when heating is on for an hour), and for an hour or two in the evening. Then it just switches off. Even turning the...

    ? problem with Potterton Suprima 50 L

Hi I had an isolated lockout a couple of weeks ago. Heatteam came but found no problem. Since their visit something strange has been happening. Sometimes the heating doesn't work properly - the orange light is on continuously (just means boiler on & receiving mains supply as far as I...

Radiators warm when only hot water on ??

Hi I had a visit from a HeatTeam engineer today to check my Potterton Suprima 50 L (due to isolated lockout last week). She ran some tests but said it seemed OK. However this evening I notice the rads are warm when hot water (NOT heating) is on ! This doesn't seem right - can someone...

Potterton Suprima 50L lockout .. ?call engineer

Any advice on my issue folks ? I'm guessing the suggestion will be just to call them out (as I'm paying for the annual cover !) ...

Potterton Suprima 50L lockout .. ?call engineer

Because Potterton acknowledged several years ago that there was a fault. If the boiler is on their "list", they replace the PCB free of charge. Mine was :)

Potterton Suprima 50L lockout .. ?call engineer

Hi I inherited a 2004 Suprima after moving house in 2008. After a few lockouts I got Potterton to replace the PCB (free as it was one of the old dodgy PCBs). It's behaved itself reasonably well since. I did have a noisy fan replaced in 2010 - and another lockout was investigated at...

Adding inhibitor / anti noise fluid to heating system ?

Thanks There seems to be a bewildering array of products (inhibitors, cleaners, X400 system restorer, X200 noise reducer etc. etc.) ! Ideally I'd just like one that does both functions & can be left in the system. The plumber suggested partially draining the CH tank (smaller of the 2...

Adding inhibitor / anti noise fluid to heating system ?

Hi I have an 8 year old Potterton 50 Suprima, which makes (what I perceive to be) bubbling/kettle-like noises. I'm assuming this might be "kettling". The boiler has been OK (had free manufacturer-instigated PCB change in 2008, and noisy fan change/thermostat replacement/inhibitor X400...

    Extending a dormer-style house ?

Hi I'm a complete novice with respect to building / extensions. I have a 3 bed dormer style house (with 1st floor rooms having dormer style windows, sticking out of the roof tiles). There is room to extend at the back, and possibly to one side (by a few feet). Is it possible /...

12v halogen kitchen lights not working properly ?

Thanks, that 's helpful. Could you/anyone else advise re. the reason behind my problem ? Specifically why these 2 particular bulbs go off - is it related to positioning with respect to the circuitry involved ? And why does just wiggling / repositioning them in the lamp holder bring...

12v halogen kitchen lights not working properly ?

Would replacing with LED bulbs help ? If so what would be a direct replacement for 50w GU5.3 12v bulbs (in terms of wattage etc.) ?] thanks

12v halogen kitchen lights not working properly ?

Thanks So is it the bulbs or connector that is causing this ? Is the apparent blackening of the pins relevant ? And why do most of the bulbs (both in kitchen & hall, where there are 8 more) work OK ? What are "pods" ?
