    Where to buy skirting board

I live in a small town and the small selection of diy shops do not sell my style of skirting board. Can anyone recommend a retailer that stocks a good range to save me driving to every single retailer in my area. Its about 14cm high with a sloped top. Thanks, Mike.

What is teeh best carpet underlay and where to buy it

Pretty much what it says in the title. Over the next few months I will replace carpet in several bedrooms, hall, stairs etc. One shop quoted me £10/sq meter for their 'good stuff'. Sounds expensive to me. Any thoughts on where to buy good underlay online.

Removed wallpaper from ceiling - now what to do??

Nearly every room in the house has a wallpapered ceiling. Turns out the previous owner has applied paper onto what looks liks the backing paper of woodchip paper. Took several hours to remove but I now need some advice. The ceiling is in reasonable condition. I was considering getting it...

Air vent in lounge - can i fill it in

Vent was in when we moved in. There was no double glazing and no central heating, plenty of drafts and it made a cold corner in the lounge. However, we have now fitted double glazing, central heating and made some improvements so we do not notice any cold spots. The house is super warm. It...

    Repair wall behind skirting boards

Having removed several skirting boards i now find the wall behind where the boards were lacks substance - plaster and stuff fell away :) What is the best stuff to patch up the plaster here. Its down to the brick in many places. Is there a product that I can apply before i refit the skirting...

Moving sockets up about 6 inches

Don't think there is an RCD. I will protect wires with metal trunking to avoid 'sloch'. Thanks for your advice. I will do my best and hope there is some give on the wires.

    Removing Aga

I have sent a few emails to see if any of the recondition firms want it. Some replies so hopefully someone will want it. As much as I like take-away I would enjoy some decent home cooked food. I am in the not so sunny Midlands - Nuneaton in Warwickshire.

Air vent in lounge - can i fill it in

Regs, rules and legislation. Was life really so unsafe in the old days? Take you point though. Thanks.

Moving sockets up about 6 inches

A blanking plate is not my preferred finish for the wall. In the unlikely event that an electrician needs access to that 6 inch gap i would happily break through plaster and redo. Are there really no options other than to rewire that section of cable? I had hoped there was a junction or...

    Removing Aga

I have an old Aga that was working fine (although bloody expensive and not very efficient) that is now disconnected. It runs on gas and also heated the water tank. I now have lovely new heating and want shot of this beast. Can I diy the removal or are there some problems I may face. Gas and...

Moving sockets up about 6 inches

The existing plug sockets in a couple of rooms sits low just above the skirting board. As i plan to recess the socket anyway I though I could also lift this slightly. If there is no 'give' in the cables what is the best way to extend them by a few inches to meat the new height? I am assuming...

Air vent in lounge - can i fill it in

In my lounge there is an airvent about 6-8 inches in circumfrence. It has a plastic guard on external and internal walls. The house when built had an open fire but this is now a 3 year old gas fire. What purpose does it serve? Can i just fill this in? If i fill it what is the best way...

Mitre saw for tall skirting boards

Oh dear. I will need one several times as I go through the house. Hire costs could outweigh initial saving. Stupid question .... Can you do this with a smaller saw and flip the wood over. Or would starting with a smaller electric saw and finishing with hand saw work?

Mitre saw for tall skirting boards

Need to cut the corners on skirting boards that are about 8-9 inches tall. I have several rooms that will need new skirts and a proposed extension in due course. Think that an electric saw would be the sensible option. What should i be looking for an can i get one for £100 or less.

    Boiler suggestions

Do not really want a 'low end' cylinder. Sounds like 210 litre will do the job. I think I will stop at 2 kids and do not plan on selling anytime in my life (too much grief). Would under floor heating in the kitchen extension effect the cylinder size? Or would this be a boiler issue...

    Boiler suggestions

Yes we may need 2 showers at once. We are currently Mum, Dad, 2 yr girl and a growing bump. If that ones a girl then I guess we will need 2 showers at same time. :) The gap where cylinder will fit is only 57cm across so I do not know if i an fit anything above 210litre. As house will be 5...

    Boiler suggestions

Is gledhill 210 litre unvented cylinder any good? That is the cylinder suggested by cheaper quote. Top end was offering a Vaillant 210 unvented cylinder.

    Party Wall question

Cheers Chappers. I think my architect is just being over cautious. (If he has suggested an agreement he has done his job). I really can't see any reason to get an agreement and I do not like the idea of giving someone the opportunity to make demands when i would be the one over a barrell.

    Where is good for sheds?

What is this new found search machine you talk of :) Just jokes. I was simply looking for a recommendation as there are so many suppliers. Being on Google does not mean your sheds are good.
