    Not outrageous prices

The board is my Christmas project whilst work closes down for a fortnight. I couldn't find what I wanted when I went online at Maplin. Perhaps I was being thick. I need: 11 x 0.1 ohm RS 159-253 8 x 0.15 ohm RS 159-269 15 x 0.22 ohm RS 159-275 7 x 0.33 ohm RS 159-281 These are...

    1970's Wylex Standard - Part P and a story!!

We moved up to the Midlands not too long ago and don't have any family here, but we have befriended a really nice lady (retired and on her own who babysits for us upon request. Anyway she phoned me up last night and the conversation went like this. "You would be ever so proud of me" "Oh...

    Not outrageous prices

Nice one mate!! I was budgeting about £120 for parts from my local wholesaler + £35 for resistors (to represent voltage drop) from RS components to replicate my house on a sheet of MDF. This should be a lot cheaper now. I will give them a look today. Thanks!

    Chasing Machines

I'm not an electrician yet. So I have not had enough practise chasing so I'm pretty slow at moment. I was chewing the cud whether it's a good purchase or not as I was going through how much kit (and hence) money I need to get myself up and running after I'm qualified.

    Chasing Machines

Daytona So you can do a day's work in 2 hours work. This must also be good for bottom line too? Probably pay for the machine many times over if you do enough chasing work? (Is this why your at home posting rather than getting repetative strain injury at work!)

    Shower problem...

I don't understand this or I'm missing something very strange. 9.5 kW @ 240 = 39.58 Amps 8.3 kW @ 230 = 36.09 Amps Someone is this correct thinking or am I daft as a brush. Oh Clamp meters http://www.sercal-testequipmentsales.co.uk/clamp-meters-13-c.asp

    Shower problem...

What you are saying does sound odd doesn't it. Perhaps they have forgotten that we now run on a harmonised 230v not 240v. If 240v it would had been 39.58 AMPS

    Shower problem...

Master Abacus After my yesterday post about loading of fans I decided to have an investigation as I wasn't sure myself. Most fans at rated at 0.25 Amps, but more powerful ones will be about 0.5 Amps. (This is from NICEIC most frequently asked questions to helpline book - questions concerned...

    Burnt electic shower switch

Could had been a poor termination in the pull cord. If the connection is poor ie not screwed in correctly then it increases resistance and generates heat.

Mrs RJB is at it again!!

This is good to know and I'll pass this info on to her. She basically rebuilt the property herself (bought nursery, demolished bungalow and replaced with family house) so she is pretty handy at doing graft. Thanks.

    Shower problem...

The fan will be an inductive load I assume so like flouresants there's a power factor de-rating going on maybe??. Don't know for a fact, just a suggestion. What is the power of the shower and fan? Can you try isolating the fan and trying the shower again to see if it trips the MCB.

    ...and it went bang!!!!

G9 bulbs.    They are horrible. I have (soon to be had) them in my kitchen and they always blow. 2000 hours it says! Rubbish! And they blow my MCB everytime. In fairness they did improve when I started using latex gloves to install them. Haven't had the...

You want to do C&G 2330 as well. If you want it quick you can do it by correspondance. Phone up NICEIC and have a chat with their helpline people (they will tell you NICEIC are great, but they do give great advice and I believe they are doing road shows in your area at the moment? Also phone...
