    How leaky is leaky

Well I redid the compression fittings, but the hot feed is still leaking (cold is ok now). The problem is there is no space behind the nut, so i can't push it back to give access to the olive. therefore i can't get ptfe tape on the olive, and i don't think i could get an olive puller to it...

    How leaky is leaky

Hi guys, Just replaced a rubbish mixer shower (bristan sonique) with a new mixer bar valve (mira atom). The fitting was a little tricky as there is not much of hot and cold feed pipes coming through the wall. I used compression fittings with SL-X jointing compound join to join the shower bar...

add light off extractor fan in bathroom

i just checked out Part P fees. It appears it will cost c. £200 to get it checked. It'll work out cheaper to get a sparky in.

add light off extractor fan in bathroom

hi, I've had a search around, but not found the answer. Is it possible to wire a light off an extractor fan? The extractor fan is has its own isolator and comes on with the main bathroom light. The extractor is positioned right above where i'd like to have an extra light. So is it possible...

    lamintate up to hearth tiles

Thanks for info links richard. Very useful. I'm only doing the tiling myself, the stove and flue are being fitted by HETAS qualified engineer. Looks like using ply under the tiles will not be an acceptible hearth material. I'll use concrete to raise the contructional hearth instead. My...

    lamintate up to hearth tiles

Hi, I'll be finishing off laying laminate floor in my lounge this weekend and then tiling the fireplace. What are people's thoughts on the best way to marry the two floor types (laminate and tiles) together? I was thinking i could raise the fireplace base a little with some ply, then have...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

hi matty, yes i read the link. A nice guide! Cheers. I was thinking of putting flex down to make sure the floor is completetly level and smooth for the tiles. I have laid sheets of ply down over the floor boards and concrete, but there are a couple of small (1-2mm gaps) between some of the...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

Do you know of any alternatives to f-ball 700 flex? The local supplier around here is not all that local. Idealy something that i can get from one of the large sheds. Preferably cheaper than the f-ball product too! I've almost finished fixing the ply sheets down. 95% of the floor is now...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

yep its been a steep learning curve in levelling floors this week. But if it was too easy it wouldn't be fun! Cheers for both your inputs. I will carry on and make the best of what i have.

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

Does seem like a lot of effort for such a small area! Where the concrete meets the floor boards there is rise (on concrete side). If i lay a 1.5 m rule over the concrete and boards there is a gap of about 5 mm at the end of the rule. As i have the acrylic levelling compound already i was...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

The readings might not have been quite 10%, but they were very low. The scale on the meter wasn't uniform so I might not have read it accurately. However, they were definitely well below 75%. I measured it using a 'damp meter' from HSS. I just went over the concrete sticking the metal prongs in...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

would you still recommend doing this if i lay ceramic tiles? Wouldn't the different floor heights be a pain for getting electrical in and out under the worktop, and moving the cooker (freestanding range).

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

cheers flooringman and Mac. I have tested the humidity with hygrometer, and it read below 10% everywhere except the wet patch which was around 50%. I've found the source of the wet patch now (very small leak on boiler), so that shouldn't be a problem anymore. I've decided to go for ceramic...

small damp patch. is dpm necessary? + walking on f-ball 700

Hi, Just want to check I'm doing this right. I want to lay vinyl tiles in my kitchen. The floor at the moment is mainly wooden floor boards, but with about 1/3 concrete. Both are very old and look/feel dry, apart from one corner of the concrete which has a damp patch. The damp patch is...

Hi, my carpenter has just about finished fitting my new front door (http://www.howdens.com/product-range/doors-joinery-collection/external-doors/hardwood-doors/carolina-m-t-glazed/). Its meranti hardwood (i think), with hardwood frame. Anyone got any good advice on how to protect the door...
