    Skimming an old wall.

Richard c ,i have been doing this job for over 20 years and i find quite a few uses for one coat but only the Wickes one especially when a lime plaster could be used as its very flexible and breaths just like lime when dry and its very good for inexperienced people because it very forgiving...

    Skimming an old wall.

Steaming any wall for too long can make the plaster blow What are you going to be doing to the walls after you have fixed them ,are you painting or papering ? I only ask because if you are papering you could save yourself some work and use wickes one coat plaster which is good and flexible and...

All part of the service...or not?

Dont get me wrong i will take things like sockets and light fittings off and dont mind putting a few things right before hand but there has to be a limit and i certainly would not mess with rads etc . I think the worse case i had was to go to skim a ceiling i had priced up before they had...

So I've given plastering a go...

Did you remove or at least pull the fronts off the sockets ? if you did then there should be no problem ,if not thats what you have to do . Your better off tuning the heating off in the newly plastered rooms . Also when skimming always trowel across and along the ceiling and skirting lines as...

    One or two plasterers?

And ALWAYS use clean water and dont mix it too long as both these things can make the plaster go off quicker and check the date on the bags

    Tips on scheduling plastering

Do you use any water when pulling the lines out of the first coat ? as this can help but like people say its just speed . I was always taught that the first coat is just a primer and then the second coat is to fill the imperfections etc i do know some people who take too long on the first coat...

Rennovating plaster work in 60 year old house

The board needs to be as close a fit to prevent any cracking as you cant plaster thin air ,yes it should be taped but the bigger the gap the more chance of problems "loosing it" means feathering it into the edge and the spread should also be able to do this with the rounded wooden edging if you...
