    Stair bulkhead in bathroom

Looking to renovate the bathroom. Is the timber at the base of the bulkhead structural or just horrible skirting? 1930s semi. Not sure if bulkhead is the right terminology? The bathroom is L shaped due to the stairs. Thanks

    Sorting a stair bulkhead

We're slowly sorting our house bit by bit. The previous owners had done a nice job superficially, but one room that had been fairly neglected was the box room. Cheap bookcases were fitted in a weird arrangement, and I'm determined to convert the space into a proper library but after pulling out...

    Bathroom with stair bulkhead

Hi guys, Going to start re-doing the bathroom, need some ideas for what to do with the staircase bulkhead. Photos attached. Happy to have the toilet and sink in the existing positions. Planning to get rid of the bath and just have a shower to free up space. I was thinking either keeping the...

Hi all. I have recently moved into a property that has a floor to ceiling cupboard in the 3rd bedroom covering the stairs bulkhead. The walls of the cupboard are made from (mainly) block work (cinder block?) All of the internal walls of the house are block (1950s ex council). I have removed...

    Slope/bulkhead question

Building advise question if possible please? Sorry if this is the wrong section. Has anyone ever removed the slope coming up/down the stairs which has a bulkhead in a small bedroom to make the bedroom bigger? I think the head clearance would drop by about 20-25cm. Is this a building regs issue...

    Cupboard above bulkhead - removable?

We have a cupboard in the small bedroom above the bulkhead of the stairs. I want to remove this as it's clearly been where an old boiler has been and the entire cupboard is grotty. I presume this is not load bearing and I'm free to continue ripping it out?

    Can this be removed?

if it runs under the bunk bed to the far wall then it could be the headheight stair bulkhead. take a ppppppphoto lookin up the stairs. the bulkhead is the sloping panel you see if you look up as you climb the dancers. if it is the bulkhead then you must leave it in place, dont mess with it but...

As well as space for a built in cupboard. The remaining brick wall is a central structural wall. Ceilings are 10ft. I...

'Bulkhead' bathroom in 2 bed terraced house

Hi - I've heard it's possible to put the bathroom upstairs in a two-up, two-down Victorian terrace using the space between the two rooms (above the stairs), think this is called the bulkhead. I'd love to do this to free up the back single story extension (currently the bathroom) to make a...

    Stairs - what is allowed

If the stairs is existing it usually allowed no problems. But as you are changing the stairs they may be more strict. But if limited by space the BCO will usually allow it. The door on the step is the worst part. also consider the more you move that stairs forward the worse that bulkhead gets...

Are stair bulkhead timbers in any way loadbearing?

There are three short lengths of timber that come into the floor of a room over some stairs, at an angle of roughly 30 degrees. As far as I can tell, their only function is that they support a short length of plasterboard over the stairs. The timbers currently are boxed in and have a shower tray...

extending brick wall with plaster board (and tiling advice)

The jog out thats boxed in - is it carrying pipework or could it be removed, and your wall pulled back level? The coved bump-out at the top where you've opened up is a bulkhead for the stairs - it shouldn't get in the way of wall units.

    Straighten stair winder

you wont be able to bring the stairs back say 10 inches without changing your bulkhead below your cupboard on landing as you would have headroom issues theres a bit more involved than altering stairs or sliding them back even if you did alter kites you would still have a full 3 treads so...
