    Need to move oil boiler.

It actually needs moving back to back against the wall it is currently against. So pipes through the wall. The flue which goes through the wll now will not when moved and I need to add several pieces to take it up further (the installer in 2009 made it so fumes gather round the garden and don't...

How can I prove cylinder coil leak?

I've turned off the cold feed to the HW tank but sort of gurgles then builds up a bit then dribbles. Have I got a coil leaking into the main part?

    Cistern valves won't turn off

I have two 100 gal tanks in loft with valves both outlets. I can't seem to turn off the cold feed to the bath. It runs on slower but persists. Can I fix this without draining the tanks and changing the valves. I'm in a VERY scaly area. Also, the valves by the hot tank are stuck solid (one is...

    Window sills.

I have a 70s house and had the windows done in UPVC. The internal sills are thin tile with the cavity right underneath. Very cold in winter (there is a 4 degree C diff on surface of tile with the outside wall internal surface!). I am going to replace the tiles with oak say 20mm thick. What...

Multi-Fuel Stove baffle screw snapped off

The baffle plate is steel but I guess the back of the stove which has the stud probably cast iron. Can cast iron be drilled? If it can I could drill out and use a bolt (probably not able to thread the back plate). Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

Can I get these walls insulated? There is a cavity and I have no damp problems. There is a suspended floor with vents over a concrete base. I am in south west (Dorset) UK. Many thanks.

Stone Garden Wall leaning a bit.

Yes it is towards a public path and I have a small gap of my ground left to do something. My proposed solution is to get some old galvanised steel gas pipe (really heavy and solid 2" with 3/8' wall) and but these against the wall using the pavement backfill concrete to support the pipe. I will...

Stone Garden Wall leaning a bit.

I have a stone wall which gently curves around the border of our garden next to the street. It has settled over the years and there are some cracks as a result. There is a varying gap on the outside (leaning out side) from half metre to one metre soil before the pavement edge which is concrete...

    Generator feedin

Thanks, I agree that expecting the generator to supply the potential full load is unwise. I had thought of putting the generator in the garage and feeding the supply backthrough the garage cable but that's only 2.5mm wire although the earth is 5mm plus the armour wire. I will investigate the...

    Generator feedin

I live where pore cuts are frequent. I have a 5.5kw generator and want a manual system for changeover. What would be the gear to provide between the board primary output and my consumer unit to provide a safe and effective way to couple the generator in?

Possibly put a Shaver unit for toothbrush in Bathroom.

If I take the feed from the loft lighting, do I need to fuse it down with say a spur box (@5A) at ceiling level? MK do a shaver outlet which can take the toothbrush charger. My local electric supplier phoned them up. Apparently they are the only ones making these.

Possibly put a Shaver unit for toothbrush in Bathroom.

Currently I have no ring main electrics in the bathroom. It is too small for "Outside area" for electrics (i.e. only has zone 2). I have a ring main (30mA RCD fused) socket just outside the bathroom where I could get a spur fitted to go through the wall into zone 2 and take a channel up the wall...

    Register plate fixing.

Thanks, the instructions only suggest 300mm but gives no details about this plate as it is not really part of the spec. I am an experienced DIYer and will be applying to th LA myself. I see now plenty of demos on U-Tube and have a good idea now what to do.
