I have a single story extension with lean to roof and with a 3.6m opening for bifolding doors and plan on fitting 2 RSJ's across this span, 1 on each cavity wall. As I've never done this before can I check the installation procedure for this. - RSJ's will be about 4m in length, going to get...

Is screeding an extension floor a DIY job?

I've got about 19 sq M to screed to a depth of approx 65mm and based on quotes of £250 (labour only) I am thinking of doing it myself, as I've already done everything else. My question is, is this a straightforward job, i.e get the levels/screeds right, mix the sharp sand, fibers, cement in a...

Advice pls on floor screed over block and beam flooring

ah that would explain the weep vents I put in, but dont have the step. BC aren't asking for it so hopefully I can leave it. (I sometimes think they havent a clue anyway). As for the wall ties, I plan to put some ties on the 1st course of blocks, but as the DPM laps back into the blocks on the...

Advice pls on floor screed over block and beam flooring

Hi, I have an area of approx 6m by 3m on a ground floor extension which is block and beam construction, that I now need to insulate and screed to finished floor height. I was planning on putting 1200g DPM down, then 80mm celotex insulation (taped at joints), then 65mm screed (approx 1.2m3)...

Set back brickwork below patio doors?

As part of my house extension, I have a set of patio doors being fitted. I have laid the first few courses of brickwork up to DPC level, however as my house has a 'feature' wall that includes a plinth course above the 1st five courses, setting the brickwork back, all the existing patio doors in...

Block and Beam floor DPC courses

Hi Just about to lay my B&B flooring and have a query over the DPC courses. The B&B floor will sit on 100mm internal cavity blockwork and I will be installing a DPC course between the B&B beams and the blockwork. The beams will run end to end from supporting wall to supporting wall. The sides...

RSJ Spec for 4M span doors, single story only, SE needed?

Spoke to catnic and they spec'd up a CX70/100 to handle the job. Just need to be wary of drilling into the lintel and use bitumin paint to protect the DPC finish, and also install a DPC tray 1 brick course above.

RSJ Spec for 4M span doors, single story only, SE needed?

Hi, Progessing with my house extension and am now looking at the RSJ needed to go above the 4M bi-folding doors we have planned. As this is all being completed under building regs, do I need to show a SE report for the RSJ spec. Also, has anyone fitted a RSJ recently for such a span, and...

    Why weak mix? cavity fill

No, theres nothing above ground, however my concrete foundation is approx 600mm below ground and I'm building off that. I also now know that my foundation block work needs to be at least 355mm to accomodate a step in the facing brickwork and the inside course. Now that I've taken delivery of...

How to build wall with lip/hip bricks 1/4 way up

thanks for all the replies and help. The photos are of the original house being built, not the new extension. Yes indeed, it looks like I'm gonna have to cut bricks down to certain widths to complete this task, cheers.

How to build wall with lip/hip bricks 1/4 way up

thanks, here some photos of the construction by the builders, just a shame I dont have the ones I really need. The overhang is approx 50mm so I dont think building a 9 inch wall will work, especially as I cant see any 'sideways' bricks in the house, indicating some being turned. Photos hopefully...
