Yes its a alpha + and the default setting is variable load with normal resitance. Reading on http://www.pumptool.co.uk/Types.html seems to explain the pump speed better and I think I'll leave it on the default unless it doesnt appear to be powerful enough.

Hi, I've just replaced my Grundfos alpha heating pump and it has settings for constant or variable heating systems, but I have no idea what this means. I have a megaflow system and gas boiler, any ideas? thanks

Yes I've tried that and it still did it. I have noticed this morning that it is not doing it and wondered if it happens after a while when the pump gets hotter, indicating an electrical issue possibly, or maybe something to do with TRV's on the radiators that I read elsewhere.
