    It is unlikely it is a hum as he has had the line tested and it was ok , hum is ussually caused by battery faults , not wet joints or hr faults .

    Openreach are not resonsible for the first item , ie if your external wire comes through the wall straight into an nte5 and that nte5 goes faulty we are supposed to charge you for it as there is no reason for it to go faulty unless your house is damp or you have damaged it .

    yes it is just a junction box joining the external cable to the internal cable , unless it is wet it is unlikely this is causing a fault , asthetically not pretty but not often causes a problem

    We would only change the overhead wire if it was proved to be the cause of a fault , if it is working ok we would not change it or relocate it for free.

    Have you got an nte5 ??? ie a socket that the front lower part comes off ???, if so test in there , is the noise always there or is it ok some times ?

    why mess about shutting valves to drain less , it isnt like you have lots of upstairs radiators , drain it fully .

    The wire coming into your house can only have a short length inside the house which is why there is a junction box and the cable will then change to internal wire to the master socket , if the line is working fine you would be charged to replace or rewire it, if you damage it causing a fault you...

    bt16 is obsolete now , accidently break one wire so your phone is off then report it to your sp who will test the line as faulty , then when openreach come out they will put it into a new gel "sausage" shaped protector

    It depends on the boiler size , the cooker size , the length from the gas meter to the appliances , the ammount of bends .

    Even when you do this you may find no improvement at all in your adsl , it all depends on how far from the exchange you are and how good the cables between the exchange and your house are .

    Take the cistern off from the pan then unscrew the big nut on the underneath that you cant see at the moment .

    its possible , but you cant tell if there is power with your pen , you really need a multimeter to prove the power

    Check at the boiler teminations with a multimeter for 240 v to prove if there is power reaching the boiler
