    Boiler commissoning

I thank everyone for the replies. I've said all I need to say, it seems some people are just fast for an argument or seem to want to believe I'm using non gas safe registered fitters regardless what I say. Do I meet every tradesman at a property and check their credentials and shoe size? No, I...

sorry you're completely wrong and out of order. We use a letting agent, who gets the plumbers. All of them are gas safe registered.

    Boiler commissoning

We only use gas safe installers. But it still seems we get conflicting information. One of the installers has registered the boiler with the manufacturer, but not with gas safe. The other seems to have done both I'm gonna chase it up with the agent.

    Boiler commissoning

Can anyone please clarify the regs/laws on commissioning new boilers, I'm getting differring opinions from our plumbers. We have rentals, in the last few months have had 2 new boilers installed. One plumber commissioned it. The other plumber who installed another said it doesn't need commission...

    DIY garden planter

I want to build some planters to grow some herbs and veg. A lot of web articles on building planters seem to completely ignore drainage and have a solid base. Am I right in thinking it's wise to have drainage? My plan was to make the base like a pallet. Then line with plastic, poke holes in...

10mm earth cable, outside run colour?

Need to run the 10mm earth bonding to the incoming water supply on the outside of the house for part of the run. Does the cable have to be identifiable green/yellow on the entire run? or can I use brown/black cable and sleeve the inside part of the run in green/yellow?

    Reliable 24-28kw Combi for rental

Can anyone recommend a reliable inexpensive (£500 -/+) for a small 2 bed terrace rental? Any good deals around at the moment. Local builders merchant sells glo-worm, and plumber is recommending i-mini, either of them any good or is there something better around?

    Free standing fence on tarmac

I reckon if I made it heavy and sturdy enough, it might work, assuming I get the centre of gravity right. I'd use heavy duty timber, not light weight fencing panels.

    Free standing fence on tarmac

It's 100mm tarmac over about 300mm hardcore, I'm not wanting to fix anything to it, hence the title of the thread :D

    Free standing fence on tarmac

My house is at the end of a terrace row. The rear of the houses is essentially an open tarmac'd carpark and we all park adjacent to our houses. As my house is at the end and there's no through access. I'd like to erect a fence to hide my car from view. The surface is tarmac, new tarmac and I...

Dot and Dab on tanked wall problem

This is the first time I've used it. Previously we've always used tanking membranes and stud walls. I was always a little cautious of it as well but knew someone who used it on a full job and that was fine a year later. This job of mine, was completed May 2014, so it's been a long while. Some...

Since the weather's dropped we can't get hot water unless I turn the heating on. Boiler is Alpha 28c, I have a rad off in the living room while decorating, I don't know if that matters, it's capped off both ends. We have an expansion vessel connected to the boiler because in previous...

    Mortar dye

Had some pointing done on a grey brick wall, we wanted dark grey mortar, the pointer used dye and has made a right mess with his mixes so some sections are dark grey and others are light grey. It's a brand new wall with grey engineering bricks. Pointer says he will sort it but I know this...

Replacing old skirting without disturbing plaster

I have tall old skirting boards in my living room, about 10 inches in height. I know that there's no plaster behind the boards. They are fixed into wooden wedges in the brickwork and I assume that they would put on prior to plastering. I'd like to replace them because they're tatty and in...
