Reasonable cost for new consumer unit?

I'm refurbing the bathroom and needed a sparky to wire in the whirlpool bath and aqualisa pumped shower unit. Got a guy in and he said it would be no problem, fit an RCD and fused spur.... but... my consumer unit needed replacing too. (current one has the pop-out button cicuit breakers)...

Not yet a DIY disaster, but the buying of parts is..!

Thanks Conny, Yes, as soon as I heard that the couriers had said they had delivered I checked with all the neighbours... no packages or signs of a van... and my son had been at home with specific orders to look out for deliveries... The shop was pretty good, (once I actually got hold of...

Not yet a DIY disaster, but the buying of parts is..!

OK, so my plan was to completely refurbish the bathroom... gut the whole room, fit new whirlpool bath with Aqualisa Quartz pumped shower over it, new vanity unit, WC, PVC cladding to walls and ceiling, and new flooring. Plan A was to get "phase 1" (ripping old bath out, cladding the...

    Recommendation for bath taps?

Dammit... another sleepless night thinking about bathrooms, taps etc.... Maybe I'm asking the wrong question here, should I be asking what would happen if I fitted a bath filler that said "minimum 0.5 bar" to a supply that only had 0.2 bar...? Thnking about the Grohe taps with their 15mm...

    Recommendation for bath taps?

ok... me again with another question.... :-) I'm looking for a wall mounted bath filler, that will work at 0.1 bar. (Taps will be about 1.5m below base of CWT) A few weeks ago I ordered a 3 hole, 0.1 bar bath filler, with matching basin tap, but having chased the supplier they today tell...

new bathroom - an update and question

IF you had a sparky (who helped fit your rads(!?) I'd get him to deal with the shower... best person to deal with it..! Back to the OP, I was in a similar position. Had lined up a new bath, WC, vanity unit, wall cladding etc to completely refurbish my 1.7m x 2.5m bathroom. but could I find...

    Aqualisa Quartz in loft?

Thanks Seco, No, I've never (yet) had problems with frozen pipes or tanks in the loft, but they've all been well lagged. Also, I put an extra few inches of insulation up in the loft earlier in the year, so it may actually get colder up there from now on. Yes, I'd make sure that the...

    Aqualisa Quartz in loft?

Hi All.... I've refurbing the bathroom and fitting an Aqualisa Quartz pumped, but can't decide where to site it. My options are running out and it looks like as a last resort I may have to site it in the loft, but I'm confused with the instructions from Aqualisa... "If siting in the...

    Noisy pipe since washer change

Thanks Nige, but its not really worth spending the money to replace the whole valve assembly as I'm in the process of refurbing the bathroom, and will be fitting a complete new WC in a couple of months. Whats puzzling me is why this noise has started after a simple washer change. :? Edit...

    Noisy pipe since washer change

Thanks for your reply Peruse, Do you mean to also change the white nozzle bit...?? I did try and get that out but it didn't want to come out, and it looked ok so I just replaced the washer... :( The nut holding the top section of the valve assembly wouldn't come undone, and the whole...

    Noisy pipe since washer change

NRV on a basin mixer tap?

I'm planning on fitting a monobloc basin mixer tap in my new bathroom, but I'm wondering of I'll need a non-return valve on the hot supply.. The cold supply is mains fed at approx 1bar, but the hot supply will be gravity fed, at approx 0.2 bar. Do I need to fit a NRV on the hot supply...

22mm gravity feed or 15 mm pumped feed for bath?

Agreed... but while I was installing a pumped shower and there was an option to have it fill the bath too, I wondered whether to go that way, or stick with the "traditional" method of 22mm bath taps...hence my original question... :) The shower diverter would mean slightly less plumbing...

22mm gravity feed or 15 mm pumped feed for bath?

To give the best flow for a shower.... the bath taps will be approx 8 ft below the CW tank, but the shower head will only be about 2 ft below the tank... so much less pressure, so needs pumping.

22mm gravity feed or 15 mm pumped feed for bath?

ok, thanks ChrisR. Tha Quartz pump supposedly gives 12-13 Lpm, or 18 Lpm on "boost" so yes, the 22mm feeds seems the way to go.

22mm gravity feed or 15 mm pumped feed for bath?

ok, so I'm refurbing the bathroom, and tying to decide how to fill the bath.... I'll have H & C 22mm feeds from the HWC and the cold tank in the loft (8 ft above the bath) which I could connect to the bath taps, or.... I'm planning on fitting one of the Aqualisa Quartz pumped showers over...

I know this is year old thread but...... I've just had a Vaillant 618 fitted and when the boiler fires up theres a loud whining noise comes from the flue. The noise lasts for 15 -30 seconds then fades away... As the OP said its like a wine glass sound, or someone blowing over the top of a...

Power tool batteries you can leave on charge?

ok, thanks guys.... It looks like my best bet is to go for one that has a fast charger, so even if they are flat, it will soon charge... I see Screwfix has an AEG one on offer at the moment...

Power tool batteries you can leave on charge?

I'm looking to replace my cordless drill / screwdriver but the main thing that bugs me about them is that you have remember to put the battery on charge in advance of using it.. (I have an old Homebase own brand one and its almost an overnight charge to get it to full charge, and it loses its...
