    LED driver?

Hi I bought 4 X 5W Livarno LEDs GU5.3 12v from Lidl. Unfortunately they do not work as direct replacements for the fitted Halogens. They just light and extinguish immediately. I have only tried one at a time. would fitting all four make any difference or do I need to replace power source...

    Confused over MR16 LEDs

Wow! b-a-s Thanks for taking the time to post such comprehensive and informative replies. I'll spend some time looking at Regulux and Thorn info - but what is for sure is just how much I dont know about lighting. I am going to write off the ebay purchase and in the meantime I will stick...

    Confused over MR16 LEDs

Thank you both for your replies. I am aware of most of what you state, but unfortunately it did not answer my question which was perhaps badly worded So, is a lamp with a GU5.3 base rated at 220V legal in the UK? After searching google I see they are sold by Amazon and many others so I...

    Confused over MR16 LEDs

Hi, I have four 12v halogen MR16/GU5.3 lamps in the bathroom. I wanted to change these to LED bulbs. I made the assumption that MR16 automatically meant 12v. Anyway I bought 4 MR16 LEDs on ebay, the listing was for a range of lamps and the voltage (220v) was stated but, as I said, I assumed...

    What is "Contribution to Overheads"

Thanks for that woody. There is in fact an additional clause stating "Remedial work to Individual Areas as required - and the overheads element applies to each square metre at 15%. As you suggest, I'll get it clarified. This 15% is almost £4 sq m and there are 86 sq m. Could be quite a...

    What is "Contribution to Overheads"

Thank you all for your replies. I understand now (I think :D) It seems it is just other expense the contractor has to cover and could be stated in any number of ways. I just hadn't seen it itemised in this way before. Thanks again Jim ps Yes I realise this is the important question...

    Trying to rescue my shed

Just wanted to show you latest progress. I'm not fitting the floor under the cills but the CLS joists are under the cills. I'll fit 38mmx19mm spacers to the CLS to bring the floor up nearer level with the top of the cills. You can see damp proof membrane under the battens at each...

    Trying to rescue my shed

Sorry for the delay in replying - I'm a slow worker :( I have now replaced all the cills and fitted sisters to supports. I got some second hand slabs to cut into 12"x10" pads. I'll get these level and fit 4 treated 2"x2" battens along shed length. I've bought 5 off 3"x2" CLS as floor joists...

    Trying to rescue my shed

Thank you for your replies. I know it would be best to take it down but just too risky as my wife and I are in our seventies and don't have help. (I heard about someone of 74 killed taking down a shed) I have raised the whole shed on supports about 6" high. I did this using a spade as a...

    Trying to rescue my shed

Hi again Due to supporting bricks sinking and massive roots from neighbours silver birch my shed floor and supports are rotten. I have removed 2 fifths of the floor at the door end and two lengths at each side. It is now standing against the back of the shed and i think this section is reusable...

    Replacing damaged cable

That's a brilliant and clear post on joint preparation prior to soldering. I took the easy way and used a Hager J803 MF Junction Box. I think my local supplier ripped me off at £5.90 +vat when most online suppliers are around £3. But hey, the job is done and in an approved manner. Thanks...

    Replacing damaged cable

Thank you for the excellent replies. sf I've never been 100% believer in crimps - even with very expensive tools. jmcb I've got the gear for soldering to hand. I mean I'll wait to source the box if I must. mf Yes, that's exactly how I'd do it. I'm good at soldering - did it for a...

    Replacing damaged cable

Securespark The Damage is about 18" from the twin socket. I have replaced the cable using a 30A circular screw screw terminal junction box. It is accessible at present but will be under floorboards and laminate flooring when completed. I believe in what your signature says and I want to...

    Replacing damaged cable

Good Morning, While replacing the coax for my TV aerial I managed to put a I" auger through the ring main cable  I have cut out the damaged cable and replaced it by joining at a 30A junction box. Is this allowed/legal? Thank you Jim Edit - A search brought up some posts saying...

    cold water storage tank overflow

Hot flow rate is higher, but not necessarily the pressure  So how can a layman (me) check the pressure, Chris?

    cold water storage tank overflow

By Leaking do you mean dripping? or do you mean leaking underneath? No sign of either. I filled the basin to the overflow with hot and cold individually. Hot 60 seconds, cold 70 seconds, so hot pressure is slightly higher. Jim

The bath tap and bathroom basin tap are mixer taps but fed from cold water storage tank - not mains cold water. Jim
