    Thanks very much, Will have to quickly go to b&q to get the cable. I guess I just strip the bare wire back and wrap it around the screws on the cooker? Don't need to crimp anything on do I?

    sorry I should have said, the new oven is 6.8kw. We don't have an electric hob. The current hob is gas but needs electric for the ignition. That's what the black plug is you can see on the photo

    Just had a joiner come to look at this mess, he is supposed to be pretty good. He said two of the holes I'd drilled in the plaster are infront of joists, the other two are infront of a beam. It's one of these which I'd drilled into which he says is fine. While obviously not a good thing...

    Thanks for the replies, luckily I only drilled into one joist. Not done the others yet 'Thank God' Doesn't look like there's much weight above the hole I drilled. Just some very thin wood which obvously can't have any weight on it. The floor above looks much higher up :?
