    breaking through question..

not wishing to contradict but this suggest that you can load the flange, provided a couple of conditions are met. an se designs it. both sides are loaded and 12mm/2mm wood projects out of the top and bottom respectively. and that there is 45mm bearing I will speak with building control to see...

    breaking through question..

Last time I spoke to BC I told them I was going to put a box lintel on outside and another box lintel on inside. They did say thats fine - they also said I could use an RSJ and that the commercially available ones are fine to use. Again no mention of an SE getting involved. However now I have...

    breaking through question..

I cant get my head round what hes on about.. hes got no choice though. That floor cant go in until the steel is in. My cavity in the wall I am breaking through is 75mm, do i just get 1 steel that sits on both courses? or 2 at 100mm wide. If i get 2 then the "c" section on the steel will be...

    breaking through question..

I spoke to the bricky this morning (who has blobbed for the rest of the week - no another job) and he said he needs either the floor in or scaffolding on the inside to work off. Said something about bricks not being same height or something...

    breaking through question..

ah I see what you mean now.. the joist goes into the "c" section of the steel.. I like your style. That sounds like a tricky install though.

    breaking through question..

i guess you're answering my previous question.. its moved on now (or so i thought) in that I am planning on using the box lintel on the exterior which is fine. Now I am unsure that a box lintel can have floor joists resting directly on it...

    breaking through question..

another question.. the outside is going ahead using a 3000mm - 215x100mm keystone lintel. Inside... can I use the same thing and rest joists on it? or do you have to us rsj to rest joists on?

    breaking through question..

i'll have a word with him.. he knows his trade so maybe its his quirk. I am having scaffolding on outside.. If he decides he's working off scaff and can put joist hangers in for me as he goes - what lintel etc. would you guys suggest for a 2.7m opening when i do breakthrough? a normal cavity...

    breaking through question..

its the access to install it later down the line that's the issue.. if the floor is in and boarded it would be nigh on impossible to get a lintel in. I just spoke to BC - he said its perfectly fine to put a lintel in the exterior now and another one internally later on. He suggested a catnic...

    breaking through question..

we're putting scaffold on the exterior of the building, but i'm not sure why not the inside.. maybe costs? I would prefer to not to go the whole hog and drop in the cavity lintel as I'm not geared up to knocking through yet - I don't have any of the other trades required to hand (spark / plumber...

    rpleace conservatory, foundation questions..

Hi All, I don't like conservatories.. never have never will. The house we bought 10 years ago has one and I must have spent all of 10 minutes in it. I would like to remove it and have a single story extension in its place onto the kitchen - like a family room setup. Problem is the...

ideal classicff260 water comes on lots of noise boiler trips

Hi, My water programme starts at 16:00, this is immediately followed by lots of noise from the tank area, then gushes of dirty black water come out of an overflow pipe in my gutter and shoots out about 4 feet onto my garden. The boiler then trips out (little red switch on side of boiler pops...

shower enclosure with back panel recommendations

[/url] thanks for the info, never heard of the "vantage" brand, have you used them before? problem with me is I have always bought "brands" that are unknown to me from places like bathroomsrus and they are always cheap rubbish - hence my current position. Why would you recommend getting...

shower enclosure with back panel recommendations

Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for a 800x800-1100 shower enclosure. I want one that has back panels as I am sick of seals going and tiles getting manky etc.. I don't want one of those that look like they belong in a caravan. This looks entirely to cheap to be good but I don't...

alarm problem after fornt door replaced

battery problably same one as install 12 years ago.. put a meter across and its showing 13v - not that thats an indication of how it would stand up to current draw. When I pulled power (external fuse) to the main unit the pir's door keypad and door chime still worked though.
