    Blocked 240 calorifier

You could try to descale it with chemicals, but it may not work and if you have never done this before you would probably be better just changing the calorifier. Not a bad job as long as you have a small wide-jawed spanner.

    Touch Dimmer

Tried doing a search on this topic but couldn't find anything, so here goes: Is replacing a standard light switch with a touch dimmer like the one below a straight swap, or is there more to it? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VLIQ1401.html Cheers in advance.

    Plasterboard box

No, all of the adjoining walls to next door are solid, but about 3 of the internal walls are plasterboard. Think that I may use them sparingly then. Cheers all.

    Quote for a new Boiler

Yes, agreed with Lorraine. Testing a boiler effectively makes it a pre-used appliance as far as the GSIUR is concerned. The firms that I thought might be able to help wouldn't go as far as Hemel Hempstead I'm afraid, if I hear of any others I'll post back.

    Quote for a new Boiler

Where in Herts are you? I may know a couple of companies who cover some of Herts who could quote you. They are medium-large sized companies who will do a good job, and should be cheaper than that. And pre-testing a boiler??? Give me a break! Ask to see pictoral evidence of them testing your...

    Plasterboard box

Hi all, about to have some wiring work done on a flat with lots of plasterboard & stud walls. At the minute lots of the sockets are surface mounted - I'd prefer to have them flush. I've seen these things for sale: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MTMDLB1.html Are these types of box...

    Quote for a new Boiler

The price is fairly high, is it from a large-ish company? It looks like they are making their money on materials such as the boiler and Honeywell controls as all can be obtained cheaper yourself, but I doubt that they would let you supply your own as its obviously their way of making money...

Are Vaillant Condensing boiler's worth it?

Croydoncorgi, I need a physically small heating only boiler for something I'm doing, I normally use the Vaillant Ecomax Pro 18 or 28E for jobs like this, but I've just noticed the Vitodens 100 compact. The brochure says its only for open vented, but surely its OK for sealed too (like the...

    New Blue Pipe (mains)

Thanks. Any idea of the potential costs for the final connection? I know that it'll probably be more from Thames Water than others as they need to clean up the 240m3 of raw sewage they have dumped in their rivers over the last few years, but a ball park figure would be really helpful...

    Licence to print money???

Sam its never too late, I retrained to be a heating engineer after going to University (studied History) and working in insurance for a few years after that, now £350 per day is a bad day for me  (only kidding mate!) Ring some of the larger firms in your area, they should definitely...

    New Blue Pipe (mains)

Just moved into a new house and am wondering how I can go about upgrading the 15mm lead mains to a 22/23mm blue pipe. I only ever do domestic heating work so I've never had to really touch an incoming mains before, apart from when tapping in for combi's etc, always INSIDE the house. Do I...

Been Offered A Gloworm 30cxi -Replace F/standing Kingfisher

A company (who will remain nameless) who subcontract to a large council in the Southeast were given a contract to install about 500 new Vaillant boilers. This was on the condition that they were powerflushed well and inhibitor added, and that afterwards a water sample was sent off, analysed and...

Potterton Puma diverter valve and spares

And you're sure its not an underfloor leak? Probably not I suppose... As for spares, I use a local merchants or if I want something quickly I use HRPC. I've found some web based spares shops but they're nothing special IMO. Can't remember price off the top of my head, but its probably...
