    Fitting an interior window cill

I have solid granite and brick walls and need to fit the wooden window cill before the plasterers arrive. Do I chase out a small portion of the window reveals and slide the cill in ? Would solid oak be a suitable wood for the cill? Thanks in advance

    Room insulation

The existing boards are as thick as the studs so looks like I will have to stick them on the back. But I guess I don't cover the outer edge of the studs , so that they can continue to breath? Also have a few electric cables on the outer lower edge of the king span, I don't cover them do I...

    Light fittings vs insulation

I have from some aurora downlights that are "insulation covered" downlights, looks like they are about £20 each in the net. I am going to ask my electrician if he can fit those for me.

    Room insulation

I have about a sheet of 125mm king span left and have access to the low stud Eves wall in the room in the bedroom in the loft . The low stud walls have board insulation on them at the moment but would it be beneficial to add some more insulation? Thanks

    Insulation downlighters

Has anyone fitted those downlighters that allow insulation to be laid on top of them ? Aurora have some... http://www.downlightsdirect.co.uk/aurora-insulation-coverable-downlight-fixed.html Seems like a very good idea as I want to keep the sound levels down in the ceiling/floor void.

    Sound Insulation

What would be the best product to fit in the ceiling void of a room? Acoustic roll or flexiable slab? A look on the internet and it seems a slab would be best, is it worth fitting more than 100mm thick? Should I try to fill the whole ceiling void? Thanks

What to do with external wall?

No, the builder said the dpm could be laid over the concrete and under the insulation boards. The concrete has been laid, but not sure how the concrete, dpm, insulation, wood boards would tie in with the insulation of the front wall.

What to do with external wall?

We have removed the wooden tongue and groove dry lining from the solid external granite and red brick wall, removed the floor, filled with hardcore and concrete but now the base of the wall foundations(granite) the mortar is damp. Drayton ZA5 Warranty

I think my valve actuator is failing, the cental heating is working fine but I can not draw down any hot water. It was replaced last year about 20 December, so not even a year old, does anyone know what the warranty on one of these is? The Drayton website doesn't mention any warranty. The first...

    Rotten joists

The carpenter has been round and suggested that I have a concrete slab. I did think of that on saturday, but not very enviromentally friendly, but no more rotten joists for me. Will also work out cheaper for me as my son, and me will be clearing the site.

    Rotten joists

Ok thanks. The joists did have a damp proof, slate but it's all broken up. The carpenter comes tomorrow, so I will see what he has to say. Is there anything to put on the rebate to stop it happened again? But I guess joists being replaced every 130 years or so is ok!

    Lounge overhaul

Well the lounge floor is coming up this weekend, how long would you expect 16sqm of pine floorboards take to lift? Then how long to fit the same amount of 70mm kingspan? Any tips on cutting kingspan? I am then going to fit ply over the floor ready for a new wooden floor, what thickness ply...

    Lounge overhaul

I was going to go for the panel insulation as thought it would be easier to fit, rather than trying to fit chicken wire under the floor. Also, I have a large concrete enclosed main waste drain going straight through the room, so not sure how much gap would be there for fitting the wire. I am...
