What detectors are needed for a rental house?

Hi, The combi gas boiler is in the garage; the kitchen has a gas hob; and the living room has an independent gas fire. Please, what sensors must I have and what should I have for the safety of the tenants? The house already has two smoke detectors.

    how to keep paint?

Okay, so it's indoors for the winter and upside down at all times. I'll check the paint next spring and will report back then. Many thanks to all who posted.

    how to keep paint?

Okay, Joe-90, I can see where you are coming from. Do you think that circles of plastic placed over the remaining paint would help to keep the paint fluid?

Can anyone recommend a car to carry DIY materials

Hi, I suggest that you get any medium/large car that you like and fit roof bars and cross fittings. Be aware that there will be a maximum load you can carry on any roof and this is usually itemised in the car's handbook.

    how to keep paint?

Hi, I shall have two half tins of paint left over when I've finished a painting job. I tin is McPhersons primer/undercoat and the other is Leyland fast-drying gloss. Both paints are water based. What, please, is the best way of keeping the remaining paint in the tins and preventing...

    18v combi drill?

Hi, A bit late into this thread, I know. I have read on a well known torch forum that very fast charging batteries don't last particularly well. Is it the same with drill batteries? Heirpin, How have you found the Fatmax drill in use, please?

What can I do with Air Admittance Valve?

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to box the valve in this weekend and will leave the space under the pipe open as a vent. I'll post a picture when the work is done.

What can I do with Air Admittance Valve?

Well, that was a bit of a struggle. How I got the snap horizontal I don't know. Anyway, anyone can now see why I want to do something about this ugly brute of a pipe. Thanks for your help, denso13

What can I do with Air Admittance Valve?

Hi, I've bought a house with a very small separate toilet. Alongside the throne is a three foot high tubular device with slots in the top. I can only assume that it is an air valve of some sort. It is about 4" diameter and very ugly and I'd like to get rid of it. Or, substitute...

    are trv's necessary?

Yes, the plumber's quote will include putting in a room stat and fitting trv's to all rads except the one in the hall. He's not including a towel rail as I'm having some bathroom alterations done which haven't been finalised yet. So I'll have new rad when the time comes. Thanks for that tip...

    are trv's necessary?

Back home again and have met the heating engineer on site. A nice, sharp young man who put me right on a couple of things immediately. I did mention trvs, the subject of my original post, and he puts in a bypass to solve any problems with them. He changed my mind on removing the kitchen...

    are trv's necessary?

I'm pleased to say that I have found a recommended building firm in my area. He has electricians, a good heating engineer, and all the usual other trades on staff. The working boss and I met to discuss what we want to do with the house and will have the heating engineer assess, with me, how...

    are trv's necessary?

JohnD, I searched again and found that I got the TRV information from www.miketheboilerman.com. He has a heading entitled Thermostatic Valves. Me, I know little about central heating. I'm just searching around for information that will help me understand what I need and what the...

    are trv's necessary?

Holty, I'm trying to plan a revamp of a 10-11 year old heating system in a 3 bed detached house. I'm coming round to the idea that a new boiler and new double radiators (instead of large singles), plus good efficient controls would be much better than what is there now. A weather...

    are trv's necessary?

Interesting! Would you mind amplifying a little on the controllers you both mention? (Or post a link to this info). Would I need just one controller for a seven rad system? If they are weather controlled would there have to be a external sensor? Thanks for your replies
