    Open cupboard trim

Hi all I'm building a similar shoe cabinet to the one in the image below for an open cupboard space in my downstairs cloakroom. I can work out how most of it is constructed but it's the trim that I'm not sure about. Using the right hand side as an example, is there a piece of stripwood tacked...

Brick/paver edging between grass and flower bed

Hi all Currently my lawn meets the soil flower bed at the edge of the garden with no boundary in between. They are both at the same level. I'd like to put some pavers in between the two to create a nice border and keep things neat. Something like this... Obviously I should dig a trench of...

    Quiet extractor fan for cloakroom

Hi all I'm looking for a recommendation for a quiet extractor fan for a downstairs toilet. The current noisy one is on a timer linked to the light. Everything I look at claims to be quiet/silent but I'm hoping someone has some first hand experience. Thanks in advance

    Gap filler for PVC quadrant

Hi. As part of decorating the living room I've replaced the PVC quadrant that sits in the right angle between the bottom of the window and the wooden window sill. It's fixed in but there is a very slight gap between the quadrant and window and also the quadrant and sill (see pic). What is best...

    Gravel grid or not?

Hi I've got a flat area of my garden, about 8ft x 25ft that I'd like to gravel. Part of it is currently turfed and part has paving slabs laid on sand. What's the best way to gravel it? Will a gravel grid add anything or is it not needed. I plan to put a weed membrane down, can gravel go...

    Cleaning varnish brush

Hi I'm applying some Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin plus varnish on my oak veneer internal doors using a Dulux pure bristle brush. What's the best way to clean the brush? Can, and if so, how should I store the brush in between coats without having to clean it. Cheers

Replacing integrated fridge/freezer - what are the options?

Thomas Dudley pneumatic flush not flushing

Hi Just moved into a house with a Thomas Dudley pneumatic type cistern. The flush button was temporamental when we moved in - it would only flush properly if push in at the right point and right angle. Now it has given up the ghost and wont flush at all. Rather than blindly replace...

Boiler not able to run on CH only

Got a plumber coming but I've just been thinking about this a bit more. I checked the pump and it seems to be running ok. It has 3 speeds and is set on the middle speed. If it is indeed a blockage, then this only happens when the system tries to run on CH only. If I empty all hot water from...

Boiler not able to run on CH only

Sometimes when I turn the HW stat up the boiler does come on, yes. But, sometimes I have to go down and push the reset button on the underside of the boiler to get it going. I'm not sure what is causing the reset button to pop out but it seems to depend on how bad the banging and cluncking is...

Boiler not able to run on CH only

Sorry, that was off at the timer. I just turned off at the main spur and yes, the valve lever gives a bit of resistance when moved from AUTO to MAN OPEN. Without locking it in place, it moves back towards AUTO (not all the way mind, about 2/3 of the way). I checked the back of the timer and...

Boiler not able to run on CH only

The system is now off and the valve lever is just as loose as before. The timer is a Pottertron EP2000. It has 2 black switches - one for CH and one for HW. I can slide the HW one independantly of the CH but when I slide the CH it slides the HW one too.

Boiler not able to run on CH only

Hi I've got an old Glowworm Energy Saver boiler that is playing up. The timer unit only allows me to select HW and CH together or HW on it's own. When I put it on HW and CH together it runs fine until the cylinder water is hot enough, the thermostat on the cylinder instructs the boiler to...

    Right adhesive for cladding

Hi all The outside of one side of our house is clad with white PVC type cladding. I'm not sure of the exact material but you know the type and the experts amongst you will no doubt know the material. The extractor fan from the bathroom exits through this wall and the plastic vent that...
