    What's the difference between a p-trap and s-trap toilet?

:( and where do i apply this wonderful piece of theory to. Upside down P/S, sideways, inverted. What part of pipe. Assuming it's the pan it's referring to. May sound like a silly question and I'm prepared for clever answers, but, I'm not thick and can't find anything on the web or here to...

Stop valve/stop cock on rising main to cloakroom?

Thanks for all your advice... TicklyT, that part on screwfix looks useful - i'll check the movement and type of pipe in use at the moment. The cistern is bottom fed so any leftover water is likely to get me wet although i'll leave the taps open anyhow. Or could I not push the ball valve...

Hi all I have a downstairs cloakroom with the rising main supplying the toilet cistern. I have a stop cock in the kitchen under the sink but would like to have some kind of stop valve or stop cock on the pipe supplying the toilets cistern (enabling me to stop the flow to the downstairs toilet...

    Plugs, fuses and ratings

Thats what I thought. Cheers BigJon. I can understand the sealed plug being marked to advise what size fuse should be used with the TV. But the spare plug could be used for anything - so is the 13A the max rating the plug can handle?

    Plugs, fuses and ratings

Hi I have a TV with a plug that is hard wired in. I need to remove the plug to feed the cable through a small hole. Now, the plug on the TV is marked 5A 250V. I've found another old plug marked 13A 250V. If i use the old plug on the TV with a 5A fuse would everything be ok? Cheers in advance

    Giving Matt a Silk finish

Cheers for the reply Jason It's a Laura Ashley paint (I hate these flashy poncy paints but there was no other brand with the same colour - groan). They only had Matt in the shop but at £20 a pot I don't really want to have to buy another pot of silk even if I do find it. How much would the...

    Giving Matt a Silk finish

Hi I was wondering if there is any product that you can paint on top of Matt to give it a Silk effect? I have painted a room using Matt as that particular colour not have a Silk alternative. Now I would prefer a Silk finish as the Matt becomes too grubby too quickly - I was thinking on...

    Chopping down Conifers

They look pretty big! I've only got gated access at the back of my house. Do they come in smaller types - maybe that can be operated by hand (similar size to pneumatic drill)?

    Chopping down Conifers

Update: Used a bow saw to chop them down to stumps of approx. 3ft - pretty easy going - 12 trees in 4 hours. Will attempt to uproot one of them on my own and if it's a complete nightmare then I'll hire someone to come in with the stump grinder I think. ajsdoc, how much did your fella...

    Chopping down Conifers

Regarding using them as a fence...they are in a pretty bad way - not like how they look in the photo. That photo was prior to the seller chopping the tops off. Since then they look pretty poor (brown with no hitting them). Besides, the droppings from the tree make any soil underneath useless for...

    Chopping down Conifers

I knew I forgot to mention something. Yes, trunks are on average 6 inches thick. A Bow saw eh? I can use one of them on my own? (visions of those huge 2-man bow saws)

    Chopping down Conifers

Hi all I need a bit of advice in the tree-felling department. There are 10 Conifers (I think thats what they are) running the length of my garden which I would like to replace with a small fence to allow more sunlight into my garden. I've just moved in and it looks like the trees were...

    Spotlights and dimmers

Would 35W bulbs be particularly dim? Are they comparable to normal incandescent light bulbs with regards to wattage? For example where I am to replace 1 60W incandescant bulb with 4 x 35W halogen spotlight bulbs will I end up with nearly double as much light - trying not to be ignorant here...
