    Blockwork corners

Is it ok for corners on blockwork not to fully overlap? Its hard to explain and I don't have a picture ready but what the brickie has done is every second block on corner are fully joined up - blocks on one wall goes to the edge of the wall and the block on the perpendicular wall is fully butted...

Hellllllp please - Visqueen double sided DPM jointing tape

Is it actually necessary to use any sort of tape at all? My builders just overlapped the DPM and left it at that.

    Poured concrete

I ordered a concrete truck today to fill the floors on my house. The area that was being filled in is 46 square meters (100mm depth). The concrete man claims that he has put in 7 cubic meters of concrete which makes no sense - the area is not big enough. To confound it further, he had a counter...

    PIR underfloor insulation

Well after all that, the crawlspace is a lot smaller from inside than when looking in from outside. I can crawl in but after dragging myself 4 meters into it, I just need to get out again. I've insulated the easy half today but not sure how I'll ever do the other half without some strong...

    PIR underfloor insulation

I am planning to squeeze under suspended timber floors tomorrow to insulate with PIR boards (celotex). What I am not sure about is whether I should insulate between the joists or under them. I know kingspan instruction state between joists but there is plenty of advice which states that its...

Floor screeding - is it necessary

I am having concrete floors replaced in a 1930s house - floors are being dug up and new floors put in - insulation and everything else. Builder is telling me it doesn't need screed on surface as its only required if you are having underfloor heating put in. Is that the case?

    Building control

Sorry to disappoint, it's not retrospective just lots of option a's.

    Building control

Nothing is ever that precise with building work that you can always say you are 100% right. As an example, if footings are locally required to be 1m deep, inspector could say its not good enough if in places depth only goes to 90cm or 95cm regardless of whether its clay or sand underneath. Or he...

He's got the job to re-plaster the whole house. I gave him the money and he bought the stuff - I have no idea why so much though, all at once.

    Structural calcs for roof lights

    Almost expired plaster

Thanks for the replies. I called the plasterer in the end and asked him to use them on the job he's currently on and get me some more when he's ready.

    Almost expired plaster

Hold on. It was only bought like a month ago - its still got month and a half usage left and its been left indoors - why would noone buy it? I can imagine if I tried to sell it off mid November, but its only just began October.

    Almost expired plaster

I have around 60 bags of Thistle multi-finish plaster which expires 11-Nov. Plasterer is coming back on 1-Nov and I am not sure if he'll get round to using it all before expiry date (he needs to finish boarding up, skim the ceilings which will use some plaster but not all 60 bags), then float...

    Building control

Yes. Thanks. It must be me :D I don't quite understand what attitude, I just asked a straight question and wanted simple answer, wasn't rude to anyone, and didn't want to discuss further but anyway...

    Building control

I would love advise on this but I am rightly or wrongly paranoid that all council workers spend most of their day browsing the web and being BC some of them must be on here and can put 2 & 2 together...

    Building control

Thanks for the response. I didn't really want to go into details of why and what happened, I just wanted a straight yes or no answer.
