    chrome taps tarnished

Chrome on taps is quite thick (well its seems to be compared with car bright work anyway) so you may be able to polish out the tarnish using a chrome car polish. And lots of elbow grease.

Cleaning up a rusty cast iron wood burning stove

I did this to a Squirel, that had been out in a garden for some years... Started with getting the doors off by soaking with WD40 and very light taps with a little hammer then used electrolytic de rusting ( http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/rust/electrolytic_derusting.htm) to get the air controls...

Green sticky stuff in ceiling rose

They do a "home care" thing which if you pay enough they will come round and condemn your wire and gas! We suffered from only their gas bit, but i wouldn't trust them as far as i can throw the house now. My i say thanks for the info all.

Green sticky stuff in ceiling rose

I meant no disrespect to all the Sparkies out there. But its simply a matter of economics. The wires work, so they dont need fixing. The walls stand up so they don't need fixing, the roof keeps the rain out so that's fine with me too. No sense looking for trouble ah.... anyone smell burning...

Green sticky stuff in ceiling rose

No, because we made the mistake of letting British Gas in last year. And that's wiped us out of money for the next few years. Letting someone with a vested interest in condemning the wires in is unthinkable. No disrespect to anyone but i cant afford new wires. I presume the fuses Will blow etc...

    Questions on combi boiler,

cheers, Ive turned it down to zero on the boiler box. Its difficult to know what acceptable noise from a fan is, never having heard one up close, i will mention it to the sparks when he arrives as hes probably heard hundreds. All in all the guys fitted it all very well. Its a 1800's house made...

    Chimney lining?

Yes as i understand it Coal needs air from beneath while wood burns best this only air from above... As for carbon neutrality I'm not sure what its about, as you said in the grand design of thing coal is carbon neutral, only trouble is its carbon neutral in geological time and not human time lol

    Chimney lining?

Thanks for that i will pass it on. My friend uses wood on principle, she says its carbon neutral and the "green option". He last chimney fire has made her very nervous of even lighting the fire, and its getting cold!... I'm not sure what wood she uses, i will ask. thanks again.

Yesterday she had a sweep round who also happens to chimney lining who said that the whole chimney is clogged up...
