    cables and central heating

We live in an old house that has boxing around the upper floor skirting to contain the central heating and wiring circuits, because the floor/ceiling has no void. I was checking a pipe leak recently and noticed that a lot of the wiring touches in places and in some cases is partially wrapped...

    Mains Water Pressure

Ok thanks for the advice, I've been trying to find a suitable PRV. I thought the Altecnic 535 looked good. I like the dial so I know whats going on. Any recomendations for a PRV? http://www.plumbingsupplyservices.co.uk/acatalog/Pressure_Reducing_Valves.html

    Mains Water Pressure

Since moving to this house, we've always noticed how blisteringly powerful the pressure is. I can get the hose to spray 50ft easy. We've also had numerous leaks on cistern joints, compression joints, taps etc. I put one of those cheapish pressure testers onto the washing machine supply cold...

    dry test pressure?

Well after pressuring the system 1.5 bar with a bicycle pump  , the missus aint getting any tonight, I've used up my weeks energy ration. Cuppa tea & cake ordered, then onwards to 2 bar. Can't hear any hissing yet....... :D

    dry test pressure?

I've replaced quite a bit of my CH piping this week. I want to dry pressure test the system first for confidence before I refill to test. It's a vented, unpressured standard 22/15mm system. I have a monument dry pressure tester that reads upto 4 bar/60 psi. What pressure should I test up to?

    Comap Tee full bore?

I need to make some repairs to my heating where soldering just isn't practical. I bought some 22x22x15 tee's from B&Q, but then noticed the 15mm branch is not full bore. Anyone know if this Comap is...

    Magnaclean valves

Wouldn't the mesh filter quicky block up and prevent the flow?

    Magnaclean valves

Yes its very satisfying....I also collected mine and put it in a bowl to dry out. The missus thinks I've turned geek because I want to collect the rust  Mind you, she got me checking its magnetic field in case it affected her cooking pots (loopy is the polite comment), I had a compass...

    Magnaclean valves

OK well I fitted it yesterday. I was amazed at how much ruddy crud it caught in the first few hours alone. Have X400'd also, so will check every couple of weeks for a month or two.

    Magnaclean valves

Would anyone happen to know the serial number range recalled or had problematic valves. Mine is H10418x.

    Magnaclean valves

I recently purchased a 28mm version which I plan to fit next week. I've a few questions: 1) I read a suggestion that their supplied valves are poor and can sheer off when closed/opened. Is this true? 2) If yes, are there any good alternative valves available? I couldn't find any full bore...

    Need lesson on pipe thermostat

I have a gledhill boilermate II system. I thought I'd finally worked out how it all functions, but the pipe thermostat has now confused me. It has a small pipe thermostat labelled as Sopac with a dial from 30-90 degrees on it. This is connected to the boiler flow and heating pump PCB. I...

Insulating CH pipe under upstairs floor boards

This is an interesting one because last year I spent a lot of time insulating the whole heating circuit and also DHW pipes. I figured it was better to deliver the heat as much as possible where it was needed. Maybe it was a waste of time and money, but I could tell the rads were definately...

    aquadial/check valve

I purchased a non return valve for this, but noticed even though its a 22mm one, the centre does seem to go down to about 15mm or thereabouts. Is it possible to get 22mm full bore non return valves? Where? Do you think it will make much difference to the hot water pressure (it's quite...

    Pump Problem?

Its definately the boiler pump clicking (or something in that area). I can hear it coming from the pump, and have turned it off/on manually to ensure its only when the pump is running. If I turn the dial up/down on the pump the clicking also speeds/slows down.

    Pump Problem?

It is indeed a gledhill BM2. So do you think the clicking sound is somekind of pump problem developing. Can't remember ever hearing it before.

    boilermate 2

forgot to say, we also had the rads coming on even though set off. This turned out to be because the boiler feed pipe was so hot (because of the PCB failure), which is where the pipe thermostat is to detect the system being too hot, and its connected to the pump drive override. Do you have a...

    boilermate 2

I have a BM2 also. A month or so ago I had similar rumbling noises, then one night in bed a loud bang scared me and the mrs sh**less, the dog jumped up 3 feet. Turned out the header tank was empty and foam had been spewing into the tank from the expansion pipe and blew the plastic cover off the...

    Pump Problem?

I'm can hearing a clicking sound coming from the boiler pump, its a Grundfos 15-50. The heating pump is the same type and is almost quite. Both seem to be working. Both are on the 2nd setting. Does the clicking imply its worn or nearing its death? Is it worth replacing or leaving well alone...

    aquadial/check valve

ok I can see where I've caused some confusion by calling it an inhibitor. Scale reduction should have been more appropriate. The thermal store does have a high storage temperature by design, thats the only way we get hot water. Its is very hard water in my area. The taps even get lumps of...
